1 out of 5 stars Major dissapointment and headache   January 1, 2009

I have a new hdtv, hd cable box, hdmi cable, and my dvd player's remote gave out, so I bought this. It worked for about 5 min., next day turned it back on, no signal, unplugged-reconnected all, still nothing, called cust service after 1.5hrs on the phone, product defective. Do yourself a big favor stay away from this. Sadly as all products nowdays are made in china, and it shows. this garbage went back where it came from, bought a phillips works great, again this can only be categorized as junk, will give you nothing but a migrane, awful workmanship if one can call it that, with products like this toshiba can you spell bankruptcy.

5 out of 5 stars Toshiba D-R410KU   January 1, 2009
Have this recorder now for about one month. Bottom line for me is picture quality. I only record with a DVD-R disc.

Toshhiba, recommends for DVD-R to use either Verbatim or Maxell. I tried both and found the Maxell made the best copies. Machine is very easy to set up and for $99.00 you can't go wrong.

This is the best recorder I have had for some time.
I would recommend this DVD recorder/player to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Very capable machine   December 30, 2008

I am well pleased with this dvd recorder. It works with many different speed discs, 16x, 8x and even some old 4x discs I still had. The people complaining that this doesn't have a tuner simply did not take the time to read the item description, or the box before opening it.

I use mine for transferring old VHS tapes and making my own seasons of tv shows and I know it's probably not possible, but it seems like the quality of the written dvd is an improvement over the source material in both cases.

I would recommend this to anyone who wants something that works consistently and doesn't need a tuner. I mean who buys a dvd recorder without a digital receiver anyway?

You could spend a lot more and get some more fancy bells and whistles, but all you really need are the record and pause buttons.

My only complaint, if you could call it that, is that the remote is big and clunky and some of the buttons are not laid out intuitively. Otherwise, it's a perfect recorder for an average user.

5 out of 5 stars Finally   December 25, 2008
This is my 3rd Toshiba dvd recorder no vhs, the other two were vhs/dvd recorders.
first the manual is thick and all in Engish and fairly complete. The other two had problems with timer control they were both Toshiba.
This was the easiest hookup I ever did. HDMI to TV and input from the Toshiba and output to new HD box, all in 1080P.
I was happy that I didn't have to go searching for L1, the machime automatically set it. the entire hookup was no more than 2 minutes. Just got a new Camcorder and can't wait to start using the two. I can't find anything wrong with this one. The price was really low at Best Buy. Thanks for looking.

5 out of 5 stars Works fine for my needs   December 22, 2008
I bought this after viewing the other reviews with their various pros and cons, and I can say the recorder has worked well for me. I was looking for an inexpensive way to transfer a number of home movies on VHS onto DVD, and so far so good after more than half a dozen discs so far. I found the model easy to hook up and fairly simple to operate, and the results are good. Very good sound and image, with minimal loss of quality in going to the next generation.
