Amazon.com Product Description Forget thinking outside the box--now you can stop worrying about the box altogether. Coby's DVD-224 is about the size of a hardcover book, so whether you're ferrying the player between the kitchen and the bedroom or hooking it up for periodic use by the kids, the DVD-224's small size permits enjoyment of DVD programs and music CDs in just about any room you want. While not portable in the traditional sense--the unit has no screen and requires AC power--the DVD-224 is much easier to move around, set-up, and use than a traditional component DVD player. It handles not only your DVD-Videos (both NTSC- and PAL-formatted discs, depending on your TV), but it plays your music, too--everything from standard CDs to home-burned CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and MP3-encoded CDs. Further, you can load a disc brimming with digital photos for custom slide shows in the comfort of your home theater. An onscreen display simplifies setup and operation, and the unit comes with a compact, full-function remote control. Other features include parental controls (with PIN lock), frame-by-frame slow motion, picture zoom (2x, 4x), and multiple-angle viewing (with applicable discs). Like to travel? The DVD-224 won't hog space in your bag, and an auto-switching universal power supply handles inputs from AC 110 to 220 volts (50/60 Hz) for use in most countries. Accordingly, the unit's onscreen display offers a choice of 5 setup languages: English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian. A composite-video output ensures compatibility with nearly any television and many newer computer monitors. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (choose from either optical or coaxial) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. A set of standard left/right RCA analog outputs simplifies hookup with traditional integrated amplifiers and most televisions. What's in the Box DVD player, remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and a stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable.

Stopped working two months after purchase January 3, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the Colby DVD player only in October 2008 and it stopped working two months after I bought it. Yes, its super cheap, but it should have certainly lasted longer. And, since the player died two months after the purchase, I couldn't get a refund from Amazon, as they have a 30-day return policy. Almost all stores have a similar policy but if an electronic item stops working within six months, stores like Target, Fred Myers replaces it. I think Amazon needs to rethink its policies.
You get what you pay for December 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Its true what they say you do get what you pay for. When i first got this player, 8months ago, the remote didn't work, but since i had a universal remote control i didn't let that bother me. 7(1/2) months later after mild usage, it stopped working. When i tried the playback while watching a dvd just a couple weeks ago it just went blank on me. I guess it stopped reading the dvd but i wouldn't know since it didn't even have an error message. After that it wouldn't even open to let me retrive the dvd inside and i had to yank it out.
What a waste of money December 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this item on September 1st. As of mid-December, it was dead. It won't power up no matter what we try, and since it's past Amazon's return window, and Coby's crummy warranty is only 90 days, we're left with $27 we flushed down the toilet.
It may be cheap, but you get what you pay for! In the past I've always gone with better brand electronics and paid more for companies with a good reputation. Since this was for an extra machine in our bedroom, I went cheap, and now I'm regretting it!
Spend the extra $20-50 and get a Sony or something else.
Small but Powerful December 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Love this little machine, small and with a PAL feature as well, I can't ask for more.
Don't buy this! December 21, 2008 I bought this DVD player about 3 weeks ago. It was working fine until it just died. I played a movie for my son, it ended so I took the DVD out shut it off. Now, it won't turn back on. I can't return it because my son used the box to play in. Don't waste your money! Now, I have to buy another so what I thought was a cheap option has gotten more expensive than needed.
