1 out of 5 stars Stopped reading dvds and was very slow   January 4, 2009
I need to get a refund for this product. It stopped working in less than 45 days.

5 out of 5 stars Great Player   January 3, 2009
This an amazing DVD player and if you use it on a smaller monitor the Blu-Ray is a unnecessary investment. If you have a 46" or larger set you would notice the difference. Mine has worked great once I set it up properly.

As for up-converting vs. upscaling, I really have yet to discover any difference between them. I advise sticking to the same brand as your TV when possible on whatever players you buy. The price Amazon has now is so cheap it is a no brainer.

5 out of 5 stars Very, very nice   January 2, 2009
I have this player paired with a Samsung LN40A550 LCD TV via HDMI.
The picture quality is excellent and the Anynet+ feature is a big plus.
Sleek design matches the LCD and blends in with Directv STB.

5 out of 5 stars Great product!   December 29, 2008
Bought this dvd upconverter & works great. Picture quality is awesome & sound clear. Had trouble with the sound after installing as it was buzzing, but looked up & read others who had this problem & it was fixed with an unplug & re-plug of the HDMI cable. Also, I have a samsung TV so the remote will work on both, my TV & the dvd player/upconverter. I always use it to watch movies because of the pic quality...making my regular dvd player obsolete & unused.

5 out of 5 stars HUGE difference from regular DVD player   December 28, 2008
This player made a HUGE difference in video quality (color, sharpness, sound, etc.) from my previous Philips DVP642 "regular" DVD player for my Samsung LN52A550 TV (via <$10 HDMI cable from Amazon). It plays not only regular DVD, DivX, DVD-R DL (dual layer), etc., but also DVD+R DL burned from PCs, which many players--including $400 Samsung BD-P2500)--don't. It's also firmware upgradeable via USB (latest as of today is 2008-11-07).

The only minor quibbles are that the remote isn't lit (but I use my lit Samsung TV remote or Time Warner Cable universal remote for it, anyway) and it doesn't include an HDMI cable (buy on Amazon for $2).

If you have an audio stuttering issue like I initially did with my Samsung TV (happened if not connected to HDMI input 2), just update the firmware on the TV (mine needed 1006.1 firmware upgrade from Samsung website) and the issue (including all HDMI inputs) was resolved.
