as good as Oppo but half the price September 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this for about 6 months and I've compared this DVD player to several other upconverting players, and it is the best. You can adjust contrast, brightness, color saturation, etc to get a a picture that is far better than other players. Graininess that I had on a Toshiba was gone with this one. Menus are simple, convenenient, easy to access. The player looks good, including the LED panel on the front. Get this while you can. Really good home video products, especially at a price like this, are hard to come by.
I read so many rave reviews about Oppo players that I decided to try one. I compared this Pioneer player to the Oppo DV-980H, using both an older disc and a top-notch disc. There was no difference on my 720p projector. The Oppo is indeed a superb unit, with excellent tech support, but why bother when you can get this Pioneer for half the price?
TOPS IN UPCONVERTING September 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
CR rates this unit at top of upcoverting list and that influenced me to buy this unit. First one shipped malfunctioned, but AMAZON sent a replacement right away and it lives up to CR's billing. Admittedly, it does not give you HD, but if you have a sizable collection of standard DVD's, this unit provides vastly improved images to a HD TV set and for me that is return enough for the investment.
Terrific DVD player! August 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this player. Great picture, easy setup and lots of options. Build quality looks very good, plays many formats, including dvd+-RW with finalization not required!! Good slow-motion and frame by frame advance. Accepts cd/dvd files for slide shows with jpeg files.
A Great Value August 18, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This upconverting Pioneer DVD palyer is loaded with features. It can even remember where you left off when watching a disc another day. The upconversion takes even older television programs, and gives them a fresh new look. Anyone who'd replacing an older DVD player, getting a second one for another room, or getting into DVD's for the first time, and isn't ready to pay for Blu-Ray will find the performance and price of this player well worth the expenditure.
