| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The DVP-NS57P/S DVD player features Precision Cinema Progressive technology, providing sharper images for a better viewing experience. Unlike other DVD players that detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. This results in images closer to the original source data, because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts. Sony's Precision Drive III mechanism is also included, which helps maximize the performance of DVD collections by reading data even on some physically "warped" discs. Other benefits include fast/slow playback with sound, and custom parental control.

High Quality Low Price October 13, 2008 I could not be more satisfied with this DVD Player. I admit that I had rather low expectations due to the price. I've owned a couple of DVD players in this price range and they were simply mediocre but I needed a DVD player for my office and didn't see a need for anything too high end. Boy, was I surprised when hooked this baby up!
This is where I have my biggest complaint - the lack of video cables. I received a set of audio cable (the traditional red/white ones) but there was nothing in the box for video! Whether this was intended or not, it was very frustrating. If this was intentional, why not throw in at least a simple yellow composite cable? Otherwise, why include any cables at all? I ended up digging around and I was able to find some old component cables.
Once you have it all hooked up, however, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The picture quality greatly surpasses any DVD player with similar features in this price range. There's no noticeable blurring during frantic action scenes unlike similarly priced DVD players. Colors are bright and vivid. Sound quality is excellent
This is a high quality unit that greatly surpassed my expectations. I don't think you could find anything remotely close to it in this price range. Build quality is high, whisper quiet if not silent while operating and picture quality is phenomenal.
good dvd for the price October 9, 2008 Bought this for my son. So far it has been a great DVD for the price.
Easy to use! October 7, 2008 What a nice, compact easy to use player! It takes up a lot less room than my old one.
Yes, as some have said, it is a little slow in loading, but it's not that bad. The remote is quite nice! Black lettering on a light gray background is much easier to read than the reverse especially when you are looking for the pause button in a darkened room.
The price makes is all the more worth it.
Poor quality -- not living up to the Sony brand September 12, 2008 I purchased this unit at the end of May 2008. My previous DVD player was a cheap Coby, which lasted about 2 years. I decided to pay extra for a name brand, hoping to have many years of trouble-free use. However, 3 months later, the player is no longer working. When I put a DVD in it, it spins and grinds for a few minutes then give up. I tried to contact Sony for warranty service, but I was told that they only cover labor for 3 months and parts for a year. Since I am just outside the 3-month window, I will have to pay $40 plus shipping to have it repaired. I am very disappointed at the quality of this product as well as the warranty term. Sony used to be a great brand, but I am afraid all the outsourcing(and possibly the price pressure of the competition) has forced them to cut corners in design and manufacturing.
Stylish DVD player September 3, 2008 For the price you cant go wrong. It produces a very good image and is easy to set up and operate. Very nice looking. It does have one disadvantage....there is no S VHS connection only composite (RCA) and component. Thats why I gave it only 4 stars
