Product Description One of the problems with home-theater surround sound is finding the space to place 6 speakers in a room. It can be a challenge. Sony's HT-CT100 converts the surround experience to 3.1 channels and uses only 2 speakers, a subwoofer and a SoundBar. The SoundBar is placed like a center channel speaker directly over the TV. Speakers within the bar radiate at different angles to deliver center, left, and right channels through a spatially enhanced soundfield. With 50 Watts to each channel + 100 Watts directly to subwoofer, the system delivers 250 watts total. Featuring HDMI - Component Video - Optical A/V ports, you can connect your TV and DVD or Blu-Ray player directly to the system. It's the simplest, most streamlined way to enjoy home-theater surround.
LPCM Playback - LPCM is a method of encoding audio information digitally which can have up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. This wider bandwidth allows for high resolution audio which is closer to the original 3 Optical, 1-Coax Dolby Digital/DTS/ProLogic

Excellent Sound Quality & HDMI Switching! October 8, 2008 I had shopped around quite a bit for a nice sound system to go with the projector I use to watch TV/Movies... This device is really handy because it includes HDMI switching for 3 devices, which allows me to have a single HDMI cable going from this to the projector and this does all of the source switching.
The speaker is compact, but produces impressive sound, the subwoofer (which many competing system's don't include) is pretty small and able to be hidden away in most circumstances. Note: the wire that connects the speaker to the sub is about 10' long, and somewhat heavy-duty. It could easily be run through a wall since the speaker has mounting holes built in to the back.
The subwoofer contains all of the connections for the system, 3 HDMI inputs, other audio inputs (2 optical in, 1 coax in, 1 RCA in), a DMPORT input for special sony devices (iPod dock, etc) and then 1 HDMI output for your TV/Projector.
For the price, I don't think you could beat this unit. Plus it is really nice not to have all of the wires for multiple speakers (and the speakers) cluttering up your room.
Not what I expected September 22, 2008 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
I like the design of this sound bar but the sound is not what I expected. It sound like my TV. I need a little more kick so I returned the unit to Sears within 2 weeks of purchase but Sears charge me 15% re-stocking fee even I returned with the original box, and containing all original product packaging and accessories and looked like it had never been opened. . Buyer beware of Sears.
Works with older HDTV's -- sort of September 20, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
The CT100 cannot convert an HDMI output to a DVI input (obviously video only). This is what I wanted to do: HDMI outputs from my cable box and DVD player into the CT100. HDMI out from the CT100 to DVI input on my somewhat older HDTV, and then just have the audio coming out of the CT100. But, for whatever reason, when I connect HDMI out to the DVI input on my TV, all audio disappears. The manual says not to use HDMI to DVI (nice of them to say so before I bought it), so okay, I won't. But geez -- how hard is it just to send the video signal only from the HDMI out so it can go into my TV's DVI?
Good sound for its price. September 18, 2008 This is a great product for audiophiles on a budget, and it also functions as an HDMI switcher which helps integrate all your HD components into your home theater.
Sony remote September 17, 2008 Does anyone know if I can use my Directv HD DVR remote in lieu of the Sony HTCT 100 remote for sound? I have the 52" Samsung LCD and I don't want another remote. I considered the Boston Acoustics TVee Model 2,(no new remote), but it uses RCA cables - not HDMI.
