4 out of 5 stars It's A Winner   October 7, 2008
It'll do all the VHF channels and weather...even has a weather alert. Ours runs all day on a charge and gets plugged in at night. One time we forgot to charge it and slapped the AA batteries in to keep us online. I love the call tones...lets our comrades know who is calling before they answer. Also like the 'lock' feature that prevents accidental setting changes.

For me, the negatives are:

1) It will receive, but not transmit while charging (we overcame this by simply using AA batteries when the rechargeable battery ran low).

2) The set up/menu system is not intuitive - we had to keep the manual handy for a couple weeks.

Would I buy another one? In a heartbeat!

5 out of 5 stars Radio Facilatates Rescue   August 18, 2008
On our first trip out with the radio, we got stuck out in Pamlico Sound
in the dark, in a small sailboat, with a storm coming up. We wanted to go into Ocracoke Harbor, but the increasing winds were coming straight up the channel.
We called on Channel 16, the Coast Guard answered and towed us in.
Battery still has juice from its initial charge.
One comment on the manual is it did not mention that if you are in the Emergency Channel 16 mode, the Menu Key will not get you to the Weather Channels.

5 out of 5 stars Marine Handheld Radio   July 31, 2008
It works great. The earpiece was especially helpful as my husband directed boating friends at a recent rendezvous.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible Radio   July 10, 2008

Bought 2. One broke after 15 minutes. The other doesn't contact my neighbor 100 feet away. Waste of lots of money. Midland let me down.

Motorola next.

5 out of 5 stars Great Marine Radio!   June 27, 2008
This is a perfect handheld radio for weekend marine use or even a backup for more serious boaters. This radio is easy to use and comes with great accessories. The reception is great and it does everything I was needing. I use this radio on my boat during weekend outings and it has come in handy on several occasions.
