Great when it works. September 15, 2008 I bought this item for use while riding my ATV. It fit easily into the helmet and the sound quality was great. After a few weeks of use, however, it would lock the radio up in transmit mode and couldn't be released. I had purchased a second kit for another helmet, so I tried that one. It did the same thing as the first one. Midland customer service said they would replace them both. I hope the replacements last longer. It is possible that unplugging them with the radio "on" may have contributed to their failure. I will try turning the radio "off" prior to disconnecting in the future. There were no warnings in the limited instructions that came with the headsets to indicate this could be a problem. At least their customer service is good.
Closed face helmet headset July 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Midland Headsets work excellent. They were easy to install, and the clarity on them is great. They are so easy to hook up to your motorcycle, and with the push to talk attachment, it fits right over your handlebar and is so easy to talk to another motorcyclist. No trying to find the controls! Excellent buy, excellent product.
Midland Headsets work great!! May 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We ordered these Midland AVPH 2 headsets so we could communicate while we were on our motorcycles. They work very well. The voice comes through very clear, they are extremely easy to use, and are very handy to discuss things such as where we'd like to go, which road to turn on and such while we are travelling and wouldn't ordinarily be able to talk to each other. We are very happy with this purchase. We had previously used the open face helmet headsets, but the wind noise was a little too loud for good hearing. These seem to work much clearer and better.
Bad product design, don't buy April 16, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was very excited to use this while on my motorcycle but I was very disappointed. I have a standard closed face Shoei helmet that fits me perfectly.
* First of all, wires everywhere. There are 5 different wires and they are all really long and with different lengths. What am I supposed to do with them, put zip ties to hold them? It is a very annoying task to tuck in the wires. The only solution I found was to have the wires through the jacket then out through the bottom and into your backpack or your pocket where the actual radio is. It is highly embarrassing to struggle with the wires in front of your friends or on the street. And you have to do that every time you take off your helmet. That itself was enough for me to return the product.
* Although the speakers are flat, they are not small. They take up the space that is reserved for your ears so that makes it very uncomfortable.
* The microphone piece is bulky and you can see the metal wires inside (looks cheap). When I took the helmet off the microphone piece flipped and the velcro totally scratched my forehead. That happened twice. It makes me wonder if this product passed QA.
* When you finally install everything you end up with a matrix of wires everywhere around your body. The connectors get easily unplugged and we had to stop 3 times to fix it within 10 minutes riding. When mine was working my friend's headset stopped working and vice-versa. We never got it to work.
Not to be a total downer, I have to admit that the sound is good (when it works). But really the hassle of getting the thing to work is just not worth it. I will be looking into a wireless solution because this was very frustrating.
Great Product, Easy to install and works great April 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a quality product. Comes with everything to install in helmet. Fit is great after you spend some time positioning it, but this is due to personal preference. The speakers and mike works great, even at 90 MPH. That is as fast as I have gone so far. I recommend this product. This is about the cheapest you can go with motorcycling communications between bikes and it works great.
