4 out of 5 stars Excellent unit at the low price end...   December 31, 2008
Before purchasing the unit, I did some research and listened to several models including the Panasonic and the Sony units; of all the units in its price range ($150-225), this one had the least distortion level at its rated output 100W per channel @ 1 Kh, with .9% THD at rated output.
(This means its actual output from 20-20KHZ is probably somewhere about 60-70 watts RMS per channel).

Its a little confusing to programme; though at least Yamaha includes a card that labels the front panel buttons and controls with a letter (if you use the owner's manual to set up the unit, the instructions say push button "G" or tuner/auto button...

The sound is generally very good; the remote is set up to use the Ipod (if you buy the optional Ipod dock for the unit), FM reception is good, AM reception is only fair at best.

Its really hard to fault at this price point; only two HDMI inputs, one output, but then again at this price point what do you expect.
I purchased mine for $125 new in the box, so no complaints here!

4 out of 5 stars Budget Price,Great Value!!   December 26, 2008
This receiver was bought to replace a Sony and i am very pleased with the overall performance of this unit.
The sound is much warmer and natural sounding than the Sony(which was about 8 years old)also i own a Sony SACD player and wanted a receiver with multi channel inputs to get the most out of my SACD collection and this unit provided it as compared with Sony wich you had to pay twice the price to get a model with multi channel(wich baffles me since Sony is the owner of the SACD licence).

Anyway!! Good receiver at a great price.

3 out of 5 stars ok.   December 24, 2008
I really like it but for some reason. the yellow wire connection.(dont know whats its called.) will mess up. i have to jiggle it and some times it will work.

5 out of 5 stars Non-techie review - WOW - perfect sound   November 22, 2008

First and foremost, be sure to obtain the iPod docking station with this system (assuming you have an iPod/MP3 player, that is). We bought one of the Sony Bravia HD TV systems, and decided to go with the Yamaha sound system since it was recommended by our techie friends. WOW. After wiring our film room/play room for surround sound, I cannot express to you the near orgasmic experience of docking in my iPod and dancing like there is no tomorrow to the sound experience provided by the Yamaha HTR-6130. For the money, this is a FIVE STAR system. Love it, absolutely love it. Recommended.

(Note to the wives/SOs shopping for gifts: if you're buying this as a gift or you suspect your significant other is, and he is not a techie or electrician, please spend the money for an installer. You will be sooo much happier without a cranky, cursing partner stalking around the house wondering why all the speakers don't work. Listen to the voice of experience here. :-))

5 out of 5 stars Yamaha HTR-6130BL   October 30, 2008
Fantastic sound. Many sound enhancement options. Easy to set up. Well worth the money and had more options/features that the current equivalent model. Replaced an eight year old Sony with it. No comparison.
