Poor quality control - avoid this product! January 8, 2009 This USB turntable looks identical to one I recently purchased at another retailer, although the manufacturer was a company called Innovative Technology. Judging from the other reviews, it's exactly the same product, and if it is - avoid it at all costs. It's cheaply and poorly made, and I returned two of them to the retailer for different reasons. The first one worked fine for the first two records that I transferred. By the time I recorded the third record, however, a humming sound developed from the motor, and by the fourth record, the turntable speed was fluctuating randomly, distorting the recording beyond any reasonable use. Thinking I may have just encountered a "lemon", I returned it to the store for an even exchange. The second turntable had a bad needle or tone arm mechanism, so bad in fact that it actually scraped vinyl off the surface of my record, probably permanently damaging it. So don't let the bargain price fool you - you get what you pay for, which in this case is not much.
Solid January 7, 2009 This product works very well. I purchased it for my father as a retirement gift. He has a vast record collection and I thought he could digitize it in his spare time.
The only problem is if you don't want to spend the time learning how to use the free included software, Audacity, you're not going to use this turntable for more than listening to records.
Graceful Enough... December 26, 2008
This is my first turntable, so I have no basis for comparison on quality. The device is functional with my particular breed of hardware and software. I'd recommend making sure that you can use the RCA inputs with your PC, given that the USB recording may not be functional.
The USB stream was not recordable as far as I could tell. I didn't bother to troubleshoot that issue, because the RCA inputs worked on my PC. The recording was then recognized in the Audacity application, as well as my EZ Audio transfer and restoration kit (which I used instead). 33RPM records played fine on the turntable, but with a slightly warped spin which may have been attributable to the records, themselves, although all of them did that on a level surface.
The bottom line is that everything worked in its own special way, and it was very gratifying to transfer and edit a recording previously unavailable on CD!

poorly built, poor quality control December 16, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was deciding between this turntable and the highly regarded Audio Technica AT-LP2DUSB. I chose the Grace product because it can supposedly play 78's, even though no reviews were out at the time. After many hours of wasting my time, I had to send it back.
1) The turntable looks cheaply built. It is.
2) There were problems with the auto-return feature. Sometimes the auto-return didn't kick in, and I even had problems getting the eject button to work reliably. Even worse was the fact that it eventually kept kicking in before songs were over. This happened at the same point on a number of different records.
3) The included USB cable was defective. Of course it took me a couple of hours to figure this out.
4) The CD with the Audacity software was a mini CD, meaning that it won't play in many CD-ROM drives. Fortunately it can be downloaded, but this is indicative of the lack of thought that went into this product.
