Product Description Polk iSonic ES2 is not your traditional clock radio. It's an HD-Radio that receives AM/FM signals in digital High-Definition. That means the sound from AM and FM is superior to that of any other radio. In addition, those stations that broadcast in HD deliver many other programming features not found on standard AM/FM. And there's no subscription fee required. All you need is an HD Radio and the iSonic ES2 is it and more.
Polk's I-Sonic ES2 includes a second generation HD Radio tuner with full multicasting. With its advanced acoustical system, Digital Signal Processing, and new HD Radio tuner technology, the I-Sonic ES2 is the highest performing self-contained HD Radio product on the market. The I-Sonic ES2 accepts all iPod models with dock connectors in its top-mounted iPod dock hidden beneath a sliding door. S-Video and composite video outputs allow the user to connect a television or video monitor to the IES2 for viewing video content stored on a video iPod. The I-Sonic ES2 introduces a new music discovery feature from Apple called iTunes Tagging which makes it simple to buy songs you hear on HD Radio stations. The iTunes Tag button on the I-Sonic ES2's front panel and remote control allows you to "tag" songs broadcast by HD Radio stations. The I-Sonic ES2 stores information about the tagged songs to its memory and transfers the tags to an iPod* when docked. When you sync your iPod with your computer, iTunes automatically presents the songs in a new Tagged play-list for you to preview, buy, and download. iTunes Tagging is a great way to discover new music and add it to one's collection. Whether you enjoy listening to radio at all hours or merely want to awaken or doze off to it, the Polk Audio iSonic ES2 elevates your experience.

Third defective Polk device in a row -- will never buy again. January 8, 2009 I will say this radio sounds great, and I love HD radio.
But we had two problems right out of the box, one fixable, one a major defect:
1) We couldn't navigate the iPod with the remote or the device controls. Apparently that is fixable via a firmware upgrade which Polk will mail you on a USB stick. That's a real pain for functionality I expected out of the box, but I guess it's good that you can get future firmware upgrades too.
2) The defect? The big "down" button didn't work. E.g., we were able to bump the treble up-up-up ... and there it stuck. No way to bring it back down.
Since this is the THIRD TIME IN ROW* we've had a defective Polk device we are returning it for a refund and will never buy Polk again.
*We bought the original version of the i-Sonic, which had a CD player. It didn't work (CD player froze, and clock display corrupted) so we returned it for repairs. When we got it back, it still didn't work right (CD player loaded really really slowly) so we returned it for refund. We bought the ES2 thinking the problems were all in the CD player. Apparently not!
What a hassle. I'm sure Polk speakers are great but I will never buy another of their products.
Better than Bose Music System January 8, 2009 I had a $69 under the counter radio in kitchen for last 10 years and got the idea to replace it with a radio of quality, owning a Bose clock radio in my bedroom I figured I would go with that.I purchased 1 and a corner shelf from Lowes, installed shelf, installed an outlet by shelf for a clean look, then took the Bose out of the box.It says don,t install in a corner! Get the Gun*...I tried it and didn,t think it sounded good,so I went on line to see what is their best competition. This polk was the closest,I bought it and did a comparision test. The Polk sounds better right out of the box without even tweaking the bass or treble contols,Wow* I think the Bose is better made and has a nice c.d built in,The polk has no c.d player but sounds better,a nice display showing what song is playing and H.D crystal clear radio stations. I am keeping the POLK. I believe you will be amazed at the sound
Polk Audio I Sonic January 8, 2009 Truly great sound and stunning looks- which you would expect from any stereo in this price range ($$). It has HD radio, iTunes tagging, and will play songs from the iPhone- just can't make or receive calls when it is docked (interference). The clock radio has a great dimmer so the light at night is not too bright. Includes remote- would be nice if the remote was lighted.
Wow! Thank you Polk. December 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am typically not a review writer, but felt compelled to write a review after being so pleased with this purchase.
Polk continues to put out a great product far superior to anything out there. This product is no exception. I purchased this for my office but after I heard the exceptional quality I am putting this in my bedroom and seriously considering buying a second to put in my office as origianlly intended.
The sound is so crisp and clear and the bass is perfect. The highs, lows and midranges are true. The set-up is simple and the operation is intuitive. I could not be happier with this product. The ipod sounds awesome when played through this. Crystal clear. I was very impressed with th HD radio sound quality as well. This sounds as good at quiet volumes as it does turned up. Not quite as good as the Ipod, but close. This has to be the most power and quality that you can put into something this size. This is the best $350 I have spent in a long time and I would highly recommend this purchase. Like I said, I am seriously considering buying a second one so that I can have one at the home and office. Definately worth it!
Great job Polk and Amazon!
Great system December 1, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I enjoy this system tremendously. Sounds great for such a small package. The firmware was outdated when I received it, and I quickly found out that Polk Audio no longer provides the firmware on their website for download. It seems too many people were having issues flashing the ROM. Basically because 1) they didn't read the directions and use a memory stick < 1Gb, and 2) if they had other files on the memory stick the I-Sonic would get a bit confused. I called Polk Audio and insisted they email me the firmware (They wanted to mail me a memory stick). I performed the upgrade without any problems using an old 128Mb stick I had lying around (made sure nothing else was on it). So you should be able to request the same from Polk Audio.
