Product Description
Through simple prose and vivid illustrations, this heartwarming book encourages positive behavior as children see how rewarding it is to express daily kindness, appreciation, and love. Bucket filling and dipping are effective metaphors for understanding the effects of our actions and words on the well being of others and ourselves.

5 out of 5 stars Cutest book ever!   November 14, 2008
I was first introduced to this book while in Nursing School. I was asked to read to a group of elementary students, and they loved the book! I was recently invited to read to a group of elementary students and they loved the story and the colorful pictures. As an adult, this is becoming one of my favorite books too!

5 out of 5 stars Great concept for children AND adults   October 22, 2008
I bought this book for my two grandsons, ages 5 and 3, when they visited a few weeks ago. When I went to visit them last weekend, I was thrilled to hear their mom and them constantly referring to "filling someone's bucket". Both children understand that when you are being nice, you are filling other's buckets, AS WELL as your own, and that when being unkind, everyone's bucket gets emptied. I was so gratified to hear this, and would like the author to know how wonderful I think this book is. I highly recommend it for all ages!!

5 out of 5 stars Great teaching tool for how to be!   September 29, 2008
As a school counselor, I am alway looking for ways to work with students to help them understand how their acts of kindness not only help other but help themselve. This is the first book I have come across the does this in such a magnificent way. I have read this book to all of our students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. It shows how when we are being respectful and responsible to each other, it builds us up as a person. This book really does address how to be as a person for children and adults. The illustrations are also a terrific opportunity to help draw out individual students creativity. I would highly recommend this book for parents, teachers, and counselors.

4 out of 5 stars sweet character building book!   August 31, 2008
The bucket filling book has been a great tool in my classroom. It has such a sweet premise, and helps the children learn empathy.

5 out of 5 stars Guess what? Kids are not naturally kind!   August 25, 2008
I was sucked into the whole bucket thing because the corresponding program is what my elementary school is doing this year. We have the posters throughout the school, the assemblies, and the books.

Sure, the cynical part of me was perfectly willing to mock this (and yes, we did have a little "don't shoot holes in Mike's bucket!" banter during faculty meeting).

But, when it gets down to it, this simple little book packs a message that every kid needs to know. Because, despite what we think, too many kids need lessons in how to be kind.

The book is not preachy or moralizing. It is what it is, a quick explanation on what happens if we fill or dip someone's bucket.
