Not what I was looking for December 18, 2008 So, for those of you interested in creating art projects and then attempting to find meaning in them, buy this book. I'm sure there is nothing really wrong with the book, but it doesn't appeal to me at all. I am not interested in such things personally. I would love birth stories, scientific information, etc. I love Ina May Gaskin's books on birthing. This just isn't what I thought it would be. Maybe I should have trusted some of the other reviewers!
Book was helpful for me December 12, 2008 It's a little touchy-feely, but overall helped me accept my pregnancy and prepare for birth better than other books I've read. I wish she focused less on the "Birth Art", but I can see how some people would really like that sort of thing.
Awaken the Tiger December 2, 2008 Few pregnancy books actually have meaning towards them. Looking at your fears, emotions, and concerns about pregnancy, while inviting in the sacred power of birth will surely help prepare you for a safer birth. Motherhood is a huge transition, and spending time to be prepared by examining your beliefs about birth and surrounding concerns is worthwhile. The small downside is that there is one misleading dietary page which is hardly decipherable.
Review is by Ramiel Nagel author of Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6).
Good ideas December 2, 2008 My doula recommended this book to prepare me for childbirth. I have been reading it steadily since. I think that it has a lot of wisdom and ideas for preparing mentally for childbirth. It focuses a lot on birth art and also has some great ways to practice how to deal with pain. Definitely an alternative perspective to childbirth (that is from the medical model), but I think it is empowering for a woman to read. And has some nice chapters to prepare the father for childbirth too. I would recommend it for a woman trying to prepare for labor and childbirth.
Really helped me November 13, 2008 I loved this book. When I was pregnant with my first son I knew I wanted to have a natural childbirth, this book gave me confidence and tools to make it possible. now I have two sons and both were all natural wonderful labors I highly recommend this book.
