A simple recipe for living well December 29, 2008 This is a lovely book to illustrate the importance of kindness in a child's everyday life. It's uplifting and sweet and the metaphor of a bucket filled with happiness is a powerful and moving tool. A must for parents and children alike because we all need to remember how kindness can transform an ordinary day into an extraordinary one.
Great for classroom guidance! December 23, 2008 I'm an elementary guidance counselor, and I used this book to explain to students why it is so important to treat each other with respect and love. It's only been a month, but it sure seems to have made the point... they're all trying to "fill buckets" throughout the school!
Excellent book about kindess and self-esteem December 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a school social worker, I have used this book to teach social skill groups numerous times since I received it several weeks ago. Students of all ages are able to understand the concept. I now hear students saying "I filled a bucket today". A must buy!!
A Must Have for Teachers! December 20, 2008 A quantum literary leap for understanding the feelings of others~~explained at a level even kindergartners can easily grasp and even expand upon. Upbeat and bouncy, not syrupy or contrived. Buy the hardcover~~well worth the extra $2~~everyone will want to borrow it!
Filling Buckets December 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I absolutely would recommend this book to anyone with toddlers. My 3 and 5 year olds are always telling on each other when they are "emptying" buckets. It great to remind them that they have the ability to fill them right back up by being, or saying something nice. So far, it does the trick. It's really encouraging when I hear them saying nice things to each other (just to fill their buckets). My son took it to his school for show and tell. The teacher LOVED it so much she plans to order one to keep it in her school library!
