Product Description Echoing Brain Quest's lively design and unique silhouette, each workbook is a bright, kid-friendly invitation to delve into schoolwork with pleasure. The books are jam-packed with hundreds of curriculum-based activities, exercises, games, and challenges in every subject, but with a special emphasis on the core competencies of math and language skills. They're clear, they're interactive, colorful, and varied. Information is layered throughout the text. Kids will write, draw, solve, connect, add hands to the clocks' faces, and color in the fractional shapes. Six titles comprise the series, Pre-k through Grade 4; each is a substantial 320-page, full-color book. In addition, each title comes with a pull-out poster, more than 200 stickers, and 100 all-new Brain Quest questions and answers. Even the posters are keyed into the curriculumin second grade, children study the U.S. states, so the Grade 2 poster will be of the U.S.A., with all capitals, state flags, and state facts.

My 5-k son loves this workbook ! January 4, 2009 There are hundreds of colorful, fun exercises in this book. My five year old son was attracted to many of the pages because of the pictures of octopus, pizzas and other fun images. He even picked up on the little orbiting satellites at the top corner of the pages and said he felt this was like a science book for kids (of course it's not, but that is a big plus coming from him).
To the adult eye, one criticism might be the redundancy of the exercises, especially within each lesson type. For example, almost all 26 letters for ABC practice start with a maze puzzle, a color by letters picture and then some tracing letters, free hand writing practice. In the numbers part, number recognition in a picture collage and some tracing-then free hand writing is on nearly every number from one to twelve. However, to my son, this was no problem. I think he enjoyed the games and after watching him work in the book (often on his own with help only to read the instructions), I like the consistency myself. I believe it helps him focus on the lesson material, instead of having to learn a new game every three pages.
If your five to six year old likes to have fun while practicing core skills for school, this is a very good book with tons of exercises.
great workbook December 18, 2008 My son is still only 4 and in preschool, but we got this book hoping he could still enjoy many of the aspects of it and he definitely has. Right now he loves the colors portion but there are hundreds of other activities for him to do, writing, math, shapes, and more. The pages are coloring, space to work in is appropriate. There are animals, kids, houses, common objects throughout. My son found this book very engaging and there are so many options we can bring it out at any time to do a fun yet educational activity.
An excellent resource for parents December 18, 2008 When this workbook arrived, I was immediately impressed by it's sheer size. This book is quite comprehensive, covering every topic your Kindergartener is likely to learn during the entire school year. The topics are well organized (utilizing a color-coded page-edge system to make it easy to flip to the subject you want to work on) and approached from more than one angle, allowing you to find the method that works best for your little learner. None of the activities are particularly challenging, per se, so I wouldn't recommend this be your only learning tool (i.e.-homeschooling curriculum), but as a reinforcement of the things they're already learning it's a great resource. My son loves to work on the pages, and I have a few tucked in my purse (they're conveniently perforated along the spine for easy removal) for restaurants and doctors office waiting rooms.
Perfect... December 18, 2008 I have a six-year-old and a 4-year-old who use this book. First of all, I was very impressed with just the quality and bulk of this book. I also really like how the book is organized. Each letter is learned and practiced in alphabetical order. There are more challenging lessons and then easier, more fun pages also. The stickers add a very nice touch (my kids love them).
Overall I am very impressed with this book and highly recommend it to anyone with a 4-6 year old.
Lifesaver...thanks BrainQuest! December 12, 2008 I took this book on a 5 hour cross-country flight with my family. My 5 year old spent a good 2 hours working on the puzzles. I felt good because she was challenging herself rather than watching movies the entire time and it really kept her engaged and not bored with the flight. I will continue to bring these on road trips or flights in the future. Great idea and book.
