Consistently excellent results January 1, 2009 We have a range of food allergies and sensitivities in our family, and this book has become our #1 resource for consistently delicious, straightforward dishes that our whole family can enjoy. Worth every penny!
I second the BEST RECIPES EVER!!!!! comment! December 31, 2008 I have many, many (hundreds) of cookbooks and I absolutely LOVE this book! The recipes are simple but BEST of all, they are ALL delicious!!! I'm so tired of having a huge cookbook that has hundreds of recipes and only 1 or 2 really good dishes. The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook is amazing...From the chicken/veggie/noodle soup that my friends and children adore to the vegan enchiladas to the Blueberry Fruit Pie that is SO good and healthy that you can actually have it for breakfast!! I'm an athlete and healthy meals are incredibly important to me and my family. Whether you have food allergies or not, this book is a MUST for every kitchen!!! My poor book is dog eared and covered in drippings....I use it for every meal!!!! Sharon - mom of 2 very picky eaters : )
Valuable Book, Great Investment in Your Health December 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this book from my naturopathic doctor because allergy test came back that I was sensitive to gluten, dairy, and soy. I have been suffering from some minor health issues over the last year and my friend encouraged me to seek help with natural medicine. Since going off of gluten and dairy (I never ate much soy to begin with except soy sauce in take-out food) I have lost about 14 pounds, increased my energy dramatically, am able to sleep soundly through the night, and am not bothered as much by heartburn among other things. The results have been very dramatic in my book, though giving up gluten was not easy by any means. I have been cooking out of the Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook regularly now and it has sparked many creative innovations of my own. One of my favorite recipes I make at least once a week is the foccacia bread with herbs. It has a good springy texture and nice crumb you don't ordinarily find in the store-bought gluten-free bread. And all of the ingredients are easy to find at my local health food store. Most recipes in this book are good for diabetics as well (or can be altered to be). I want to express sincere thanks to Ms. Segersten and Mr. Malterre for writing this book.
A real disappointment December 13, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
With no option to look inside this book, I ordered this item based on the glowing customer reviews. The book description says that it "includes" gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free recipes. I own other books that give alternatives for people with food sensitivities. What I didn't expect was that there would be no normal recipes in the fresh bread and muffin section. ALL of the recipes in that section are gluten-free and call for unusual/expensive/hard-to-find ingredients such as teff flour, sorghum flour, buckwheat flour, amaranth flour, xanthan gum etc. This is all well and good if this is the kind of recipe you are looking for, but this does not fit my needs at all. Other sections include a lot of soy/tempeh/tofu recipes which I do not eat.
All in all, a real disappointment. I will be returning this book.

Finally, a cookbook that offers recipes that are not only nutritious, but delicious for EVERYONE, whether or not you have food restrictions. Thanks to Alissa and Tom, a person with food sensitivities can revel in sensory food experience.
They have included what I've always wanted in a cookbook - a complete description of each spice and how to use it. The same is done for natural sweeteners, grains and other foods.
This book is a succinct overview of nutrition. It is my personal suggestion to examine the way you eat and any chronic symptoms you may be experiencing, and consider that you may be suffering from a sensitivity to food that can be easily avoided by following the guidance of these two knowledgeable authors.
Tonight, I am cooking up the Winter Vegetable and White Bean Soup packed with nutrition and flavor. I can't wait to try the scrumptious cookie recipes, and homemade pumpkin pie with pecan crust for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.
This is a real guide to food, and a new way to truly ENJOY cooking and eating! This cookbook is what you are all getting for Christmas!
