The unique CF - SATA HDD Adapter is designed to enable Compact Flash (CFI/II) media to be used as a direct replacement for a 2.5" SATA hard drive. As a result, any equipment, such as Notebook computer, that uses a 2.5" SATA hard drive can be easily converted to use the low power and shock resistant CF media, just like a SATA solid state drive (SSD). Once installed, the CF appears as an ordinary SATA hard drive to any OS and can be configured as a boot device.

this actually works September 13, 2008
I was looking for a way to extend my laptop's run time. I use it with Delorme Street Atlas, as a gps on road trips.. I loaded a full copy of XP on a 4 GB cf card (Transcend 266x). I used a 4 GB usb stick to hold the Delorme program. You get a lot of messages saying that you are running out of disk space until you pare down the page file to a reaonable size. My XP install set it to the same size as my ram (2 GB). Dumb but that's XP. I got 2 hr. 45 min. run out of it with fulltime surfing including video. Wish I had bought a bigger card. Oh ye of little faith.
