Amazon.com Product Description
The NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNR3500 offers:
  • 4-port Gigabit switch for blazing fast wired network performance.
  • Automatic Quality of Service (QoS) ensures reliable Internet, voice, video, and gaming applications.
  • 8 internal antennas for maximum coverage and range.
The NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNR3500 lets you easily set up a blazing fast network with both wired and wireless connections. Everyone in your home or office can share a single Internet connection, and connect to their network, at speeds up to 1000 Mbps wired, and 300 Mbps wireless, letting you stream music, video, make Internet phone calls, video conference, and surf the web -- all at the same time.

The WNR3500 has a Gigabit Ethernet backbone for maximum speeds. View larger.
Easy Setup
The WNR3500 makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network: just plug the included Ethernet cable from your LAN into the device and insert the included CD into any computer on the network. The Smart Wizard will lead you through easy step-by-step instructions, and will automatically detect and configure your router for virtually all ISP connections. A stand is included for vertical placement options.

The WNR3500 employs a web-based interface for configuration for compatibility with any computer with a web browser. Setup is secure using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), and the "Push 'N' Connect" eliminates the need to remember or input security password keys.

New Technology Means Blazing Speeds and Backwards Compatibility
The WNR3500 complies with the latest Wireless-N draft specification, which allows for wireless speeds up to 300 Mbps. By utilizing patented metamaterial antenna technology, the WNR3500 offers a speed and range far surpassing the older Wireless-G standard. Eight internal antennas ensure maximum coverage and range throughout your office or home.

If you still have computers that use Wireless-G or Wireless-B, don't fret--this router is backwards compatible with the older wireless standards and can be set so all your computers can connect to the network.

By using Gigabit Ethernet for the backend, you'll be certain that the router is receiving data at the highest possible speeds, preventing the input from become a bottleneck. Four Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the back allow you to have wired connections to the network that blaze along at 1000 Mbps.

For users who already have a wireless network set up, the WNR3500 can be configured as a repeater for extending the range of the existing network.

Security Made Easy
The WNR3500 offers many security options to ensure your data is always protected and remains private. Double firewall protection keeps your network shielded from outside attacks and also prevents Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. The WNR3500 supports WiFi Protected Access (WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK), and 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption for Wireless-B/G networks. Additionally, you can set security through MAC address authentication, allowing only authorized users onto the network.

The NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNR3500 is backed by a 1-year warranty.

What's in the Box

2 out of 5 stars Ok so far   December 2, 2008
This is my first wireless-n and gigabit router. So far the speeds are awesome, way better than my AirPort Express. But thats where it ends.

CONS:
-Set up with a static IP (which I had no idea I had) from basic Comcast cable internet service was annoying. Not plug and play or easy by any means. Apple AirPort, you just plug it in and it works.
-Wireless has cut out now a few times. I reset the router and it is back up and running.
-WPA works on my Macs, WEP works on my Linux machines, but I cannot for the life of me get them both working on either WPA or WEP together. Again, my little dead AirPort Express did this just fine.
-This thing is huge. The biggest waste of space I have seen in a 4 port router in a long time. With its size you should have about 12 ethernet ports in the back and still have room.

PRO:
-Its fast
-Web based admin is nice in that its platform independent. Though, this is the same crap interface from my last netgear from 5 years ago.
-The status lights on the front are nice, the useless ones at the top are just that. Wish it was a load indicator or activity or something.
-The price is pretty decent

All in all, I might not buy it again. I like it enough to keep it for now (12 hours in) but probably will stay clear next time and most likely not buy a netgear again. I can't believe I would say it but I will take the overly locked down, proprietary software/hardware, Mac requiring, overpriced Apple product over a netgear for simple ease of use and reliability.

I am thrilled to finally have Wireless-N, especially in a device that puts out exceptional bandwidth. I followed the set up wizard and had no issues. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars This Netgear router is easier to setup and reliable as ever!!!   November 7, 2008
I owned a older Netgear Router that started to drop my internet connections. So I started researching for a new Wireless-N Router. After searching over product reviews and pricing. I wanted to make sure I buy a router that was future proof, well as least for awhile. So I choose this router because it was Wireless-N and Gigabit Router all rolled into one. I recently purchase a new HP that is also wireless. It was easy to connect and setup my wireless network for my printer. I have both hardwire and wireless devices on the router. I also love the auto update feature that is built into the router when you login into it. I recommend this product due to reliablity, easy setup with both hardware and wireless networks and pricing. Italia247 out.

5 out of 5 stars NETGEAR WNR3500   October 20, 2008
This is a great system, easy to set-up, strong signal, no drops. My kids and wife use the laptop about 3-4 nights a week for homework or shopping. They just boot up the laptop and go.

I purchased this to go with my new fiber optic high speed internet as we choose to give up dial-up so the oldest can get homework done in a timely fashion. The installer set-up it up for me, 'cause NETGEAR is always a problem, of course he picked the WEP protocol and said that was easy and left. I bought it for the WPA2 and the local office supply store was closing out the notebook adapter for $20.00. Re-setting the security to WPA2 was easy, I just the used the supplied CD for the owners manual. I've got signal strong everywhere in my two-story and I can use the local how spot from corner coffee house, if only they did not turn if off at night...

No problems after 30 days.
