Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Overheating laptops are a bigger problem than most people realize, as heat reduces system stability and harms the lifespan of your electronics. To combat this problem, you need the Antec Notebook Cooler! Increasing the cooling your laptop gets can help it last longer, and may reduce or even eliminate system crashes.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not great   October 6, 2008
This item does what it intends to do: it lowers the HD temperature of your laptop. My laptop would run between 45-50C, now it never goes above 40C.
With that said, there are a few things to know about it.
First, it is loud. I have an office space in my house, so it is relatively quiet to work there. This thing is noisy. In an cubicle or corporate setting, it might not be noticeable, but in this setting it is. Second, the blue light is annoying. It doesn't need to be so bright, and it is distracting when you have books, papers, etc. on your workstation that are illuminated like you are in a nightclub. Third, the metal surface doesn't seem to make a difference. I've touched it after I've removed my computer and it doesn't seem to be very hot, so the claims of it being beneficial to removing heat via contact seem exaggerated at best.
Overall, as I've said, it does what it intends. Just don't get distracted by the rest.

4 out of 5 stars Best Laptop Cooler I have ever had!   October 4, 2008
I have used a few products and I am happiest with this one. My only complaint is about the USB-powered cooler with pass-through connector. It is easy to connect it to your Computer but I haven't had any success using the pass through connector its a really tight fit and once you finally push it thru it doesn't work. But over all its great nice and quiet and it does a great job!

4 out of 5 stars These aren't just for laptops, use them in enclosed TV consoles!!   October 3, 2008
I bought two of these to aid in the cooling of A/V components because our TV console is enclosed.

I put one of these under my PS3 and another under my Cable DVR. Both aid in cooling those systems considerably.

The Cable DVR had problems and it would lock up from time to time which I believe was heat related. Now that I have the Antec under it, I don't have those issues.

I should also note that I have a few USB powered fans that draw air in and out of the TV console. The addition of the Antec units allows me to move more heat out which keeps things running nicely now.

Antec also makes an A/V unit that is good at drawing air from the top of systems which I have on my receiver. Just wanted to add this in here in case anyone needs something like that. I got it on sale for $40, but I think normally its like $80. Unfortunately it is much more expensive than the laptop coolers, but it is also much nicer looking when you see it integrated in to your overall system.

The only thing I wish I had an option to do was to have these powered by AC. I have bought adapters to do this, but it would be nice if it offered this as part of the product. This is key for an A/V system so that the units only power on when the device they are to cool is turned on. Otherwise they will make noise and running them all of the time I expect will greatly shorten their lifespan.

5 out of 5 stars Does the job   October 3, 2008
I have a 15.4 laptop and this cooler fits it perfectly. It's very comfortable on my lap whether I'm reclined or sitting up straight. It keeps my laptop much cooler. Its just a little to big to fit in with my laptop in its case, but it's small enough to fit in my bag along with my books.
