Amazon.com Product Description The Asus Eee PC 900 provides the power of a full-sized laptop in a compact body with a larger 8.9-inch screen. Even with the larger size of the Eee PC 900 when compared to the original Eee PC, the new model weighs just over 2 pounds--perfect for students toting to school or road warriors packing away to Wi-Fi hotspots. And because it uses flash memory instead of a hard drive (with 16 GB of storage), the Eee PC 900 is optimal for weathering rough handling and sharing space in overstuffed bags.
The Asus Eee PC 900's 8.9-inch screen is easier on the eyes, and the integrated webcam makes video chats a snap. | Other features include a 1.3-megapixel webcam integrated into the bezel above the LCD, a Secure Digital memory card slot, Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g), multiple USB ports, a VGA output for connecting to a monitor, and 1 GB of RAM. It comes preinstalled with the Linux operating system, and it's also compatible with the Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system. For the students and professionals, the Eee PC comes with a powerful selection of software to maximize personal productivity--over 40 built-in applications. The Open Office suite of software enables the user to open, edit and create documents, presentations, spreadsheets and databases that are compatible with Microsoft Office. For journalists, photographers and other professionals who need to use a computer in the field to create, to communicate and to collaborate with other colleagues, the Eee PC's combination of power, extreme portability and rugged build makes it the ideal computing solution.
No technical manual required with the specially designed, user-friendly Linux operating system interface. | | It's also a great choice for young students, with a built-in Dictionary that's great for homework, and it includes two modes of intuitive graphic user interface design to accommodate both experienced and inexperienced PC users. The Eee PC also handles your digital images, movies, and music as well as Internet radio. Nicely light at just 35 ounces, the Eee PC 900 has an 8.9-inch wide TFT LCD with a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution (WXGA)--making it more comfortable on eyes than its predecessor. Under the hood is a 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU with integrated Intel graphics processor, 1 GB of RAM (not expandable), and 16 GB of flash memory solid-state drive (SSD). The SSD provides quiet performance and helps save energy, while its shock-proof solid state design helps to guard against data loss or shock-related damage if the laptop is dropped. In addition to its wireless LAN, it also offers wired Fast Ethernet connectivity and a 56K modem. The Eee PC includes software for Web browsing (Firefox), e-mail, OpenOffice 2.0 for creating and editing word processing documents and spreadsheets, and a suite of other productivity software to help keep you on track. You get three USB 2.0 ports, a VGA output for connecting to external monitors, headphone and microphone jacks, and a Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot. The rechargeable battery provides up to 3.5 hours of battery life (depending on usage). It's backed by a 1 year warranty for parts and labor. Specifications - Internal memory: 16 GB solid state disk

Great Little Laptop! October 6, 2008 Talk about portability...this Asus Eee PC 900 is a fantastic deal for the low price. The display has increased from 7" on the Asus 700 to 8.9" for this model, and it only weighs about 3 ounces more than the original model. I had never used Linux, but find it to be much faster than Windows, but with the 900 PC you can add Windows XP if you are addicted to that OS. If you travel a lot like I do, it is great to be able to check and write your email anywhere you are. I was out of the country for six weeks and spent nearly $200 at internet cafes, but that is now a thing of the past. It came with a nice little carrying case to keep it from getting all banged up in my carry-on. Once you get used to the small keyboard, it is a breeze.P.S.---I'm adding 1/2 a star to my rating!
Awesome little internet machine October 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I received this little wonder on Thursday and am in love with it. It is perfect for email and internet browsing. Pretty slick for ebooks too, which is something I had not considered.
I think the best thing about it is that it contains no Microsoft products. I had forgotten the shear joy of having true control over a computer, like it was pre-windows, and am seeing the pure beauty of Linux.
The only bad thing I can add is that Amazon does not tell you that the eee comes with a nice sleeve in the box so I did not have to order the $20 one, which I will be sending back.
You can't beat the price on this thing so I highly recommend that you buy it!
regards, Steve
I Love My Eee! October 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Asus Eee PC has been exactly what I intended it to be. It's a breeze to set up, and very easy to use. The main function that I use it for is Internet browsing on the go. It is so simple to throw it in my bag and take it along with me so that I have access to the Internet at coffee shops and hotels no matter where I travel to.
It's not meant to be a fully-functioning PC, so if that is what you are looking for then look somewhere else. However, if you need a surprisingly versatile little machine that enables you to travel lightly and still have access to the Internet, then this is the buy for you!
The Eee PC is affordable, durable, and easy to use. I looked at some of the other options, but ended up choosing this one. I don't regret it at all. Btw, the Linux model is the way to go. Why pay more for Windows when you have so much functionality built into the Linux model for free?
Thank you Asus!
Buy with your eyes open and you will like it. October 1, 2008 The 900 16g is said to have a slow hard drive. This is not a problem in Linux.
All of the 900's have a 10% per day battery drain even with the power off. I knew that before I bought it, so it's not a problem for me.
This is a wonderful little machine.
'Gave it 4 out of five because nothing is perfect.
I bought it at $350. At $330 it is an even better deal. Watch out for the XP version, that is said to be very slow.
Amazing! I wouldn't believe how much fun this is! October 1, 2008 My girlfriend bought this netbook to use to take notes in a couple of her classes where the desks were too small to put a full-sized laptop on, and now I'm buying one for myself. This is probably the best value for any netbook right now, you get a decent processor, a gig of ram, 16 gigs of memory, and Xandros (a version of linux specifically made for this netbook). You can measure out the size all you want, but you will still be amazed at how small this thing is, yet the keyboard is quite easy to use (after a couple hours of adjustment). The entire system is ready to use as soon as you open the box, which is a godsend for people who aren't computer-experts. The operating system is easier to use than just about anything (windows, mac, or other distributions of linux) else in the world, with your programs being divided into categories like "internet," "games," and "office." You can easily expect to get 3 or 4 hours out of this thing per charge, even more than 4 if you're careful.
If you're going to be using the system for what it's supposed to be used for, don't spend the extra money for the Asus 901, don't try to skimp and get the Acer Aspire One (you won't get a webcam there), just pick this guy up. It's unbelievably durable as well, you can tell as soon as you pick it up that it's made to last a while.
The system only takes around 20 seconds to start up, which means you can be starting on whatever you want almost immediately.
If you've ever taken notes in a class on paper, then tried a laptop, you'll see how much faster and easier it is to take notes on a computer (even if you don't type quickly), and even if you take pages upon pages of notes, ctrl+f (search) is a godsend, you can find out exactly where you took notes on Sir Isaac Newton or Abraham Lincoln without having to sift through page after page of notes. I guarantee that if you start using a netbook to take your notes, you're going to have a much easier time in your classes.
The keyboard is a little small, which is why you'll have the slight learning curve, but the smaller your hands, the easier this thing will be to use. If you've tried one of these out and it's too small for you (this shouldn't happen unless you have particularly above-average hands), you could pick up the Asus Eee PC 1000, which is almost exactly the same but just a bit larger.
This isn't just for school though, if you're on the go and need access to the internet, you can't beat this little thing.
I'd say this thing is almost required for any college student, and wouldn't be bad for high-school students either. The best part of all with this thing though, is it's only $350! You can put Windows XP on this if you want (Asus has all the drivers for it online), and use it more as a regular laptop, or even Ubuntu if you want to go a little more hardcore.
