Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars McCutcheon's first and best album and probably my favorite!   September 9, 2008
I've seen John McCutcheon in concert and met him several times. Not too long after we saw him at Blacksburg High School, (I must have been 5 or 6 at the time, my Aunt gave us the tape of this album. My sister and I spent endless hours listening to it as children. And I still love it. It has great songs on it like, Cut the Cake, All God's Critters, John Henry, and it concludes with the soothing lullaby Tender Shepherd, (from Peter Pan.)

Needless to say, the tape is in pretty bad shape. We've pretty much loved it to death. I can't wait to buy it on CD, so I'll one day have it for my kids. All in all, I'd say that no matter how old you are, buy yourself a copy. And make sure to fill your collection with all the other John McCutcheon CD's. You won't go wrong on any of them.

5 out of 5 stars My FAVORITE ALBUM!   November 19, 2000
This album was my favorite as a kid and is still one of my favorites. Any person with kids (or a kid at heart) should buy this.

5 out of 5 stars Loved by the whole family -- parents and kids alike   September 1, 1999
It's a great record from start to finish. "Cut the cake" is a better birthday song than "Happy Birthday." My kids love "Rubber Blubber Whale", my wife loves Bill Staines' "All God's Critters", and I really like them all, particularly the traditional ones. The kids like the melodies and the words, which are clever. I like the songs but also appreciate the fine musicianship and variety of instrumentation, including the featured hammer dulcimer but also the fiddles and other strings. We liked it at first, but over time we like it even more.

5 out of 5 stars Hook your kids on music you'll both love!   April 21, 1999
John is one of the best storyteller musicians I've seen. Your kids will love this!
