oh Rahsaan, are you lost? August 2, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm really upset at this one. I admit that it takes me a while to dig RP but every other album of his I adore. The only positive thing I can say is that well I have all of his CDs. This has got to be the most off key, depressing efforts I have heard from him. I really tried to keep an open mind but listening to this is a chore. Something was not sitting well with RP when he made this one and you can hear it in almost every song (even the "happy" songs). I know he can do waaaaaay better. I'm usually very proud of his music, but I won't play this one while others are in the car, its that bad. Again I'm upset because RP's music I rush to get and I deeply enjoy. I know that what I type seems harsh, but maybe he needs it. Rahsaan this is so not you!
Fresh, but not in the way you think... July 8, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Methinks Rahsaan has spent a wee bit too much time listening to those post-Family Stone records by Sly. While records like 'Fresh' are considered required listening for Neo-Soulers and Acid-Jazzers, do you really think its necessary that we revisit all that sonic weirdness? Psychedelic introspection, acid moods, aimless vocal noodling? Like 'After Hours', 'Wine and Spirits' lacks the balance of his debut or his 'Love in Stereo' records(see my reviews). I'm sure most hard-core fans will pan me for saying this. This record leaves little doubt that Patterson is not a happy artist right now. He sounds depressed and weary pretty much throughout the record, not unlike Prince when he was feuding with Warner Bros. Records and writing 'Slave' on his face. Some would say this CD is more ambient and lounge. Some might consider it dark and funky. And what's up with all that chanting and moaning??? I dunno; to me its just an unfocused, uninspired work by a highly talented but frustrated singer. And like most gifted musicians, their music inevitably reflects their mood. This won't discourage me from buying his records. But I sincerely hope his next record is more inspired.

Have Been a Fan for Years March 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The artist in my opinion is so under rated in some areas. I can say Rahsaan Patterson to some and they say who is that. This CD is good and there are a few cuts that still need to grow on me. But his usual style is on there in several cuts. And that will never go away; his style.
LOVE IT!! March 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Mr Patterson, twisted it up on this one..he could have just been the same ole, same ole..but he took it to another level. Bravo my friend I am riding this cloud with you...keep it coming!
I will say if you are a fan, and were looking for the same stuff..you may be a little put off...but don't be too quick to judge...put it in and take the journey with him..when it's all said and done you will be pleased!!
