Classic 80's synth-disco November 7, 2008 If you haven't heard the best track from this record, "You Spin Me 'Round," you're probably over 50, under 12, or dead. You certainly never went to a dance club in the mid-to-late 1980's, because that song was de rigueur in those days, and for good reason. This is high-energy dance music that will get anybody on the dance floor.
But why stop there? This album (which pre-dates CDs) has some terrific tracks, including "I Wanna Be a Toy" (one of my personal favorites), "My Heart Goes Bang", "In Too Deep", and others.
Just get it, play it, and dance your way to happiness. Get spun 'round, baby, like a record.
Perfection. May 15, 2008 What more can be said for this timeless pop diamond: PERFECT songwriting and playing.
A Snapshot of the GOOD 80s March 8, 2008 When it comes to electronic music, nobody has yet to top the 80's. Before you all howl like spoilt kids let me say that the whole dance/electronica movement of the last 20 years has been ok but the innovators are guys like Dead or Alive.
Forget, if you wish, the uber hit "You spin me round" this baby is full of real songs. I will admit that a few of the sounds are so 1980's and have been used to the point of no return but the songs are there. Case in point being "My heart Goes Bang" which could easily be done by a hard rock act or "Been A Long Time" that strays from the pop style and closes the album on a leave you wanting more note.
So if you can get past the aforementioned uber hit and Pete Burns' attempts at out wierding Michael jackson in the facial surgery department you will find this to be an excellent example of what was good about the 80's electronic music scene.
Excellent CD, poor re-mastering December 11, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was one of those fans who shelled out the $50 for the original CD back in 1986. I played it to death at parties until it was stolen from my work back in 1994. I recently bought this copy and I can honestly say that it has really lost the sonic quality the original had. I have a decent hifi at home, nice 2-channel amp and a 1992 Nakamichi CD player with a really warm sound and this CD sounded so poor. When compared with "The Age of Consent" from Bronski Beat (also a re-issue) it had the sonic qualities of really poor 128kbit MP3s. Great songs, excellent album but poor quality makes me really upset. I even looked for the original CD and you can find it at outrageous prices (like $100 US +). Bummer!
Wonderful Music November 22, 2007 Dead or Alive is a fantastic band. While the "Youthquake" album is perhaps best known for "You Spin Me Round", it also features eight other songs that are just as energetic, like "D.J. Hit That Button", "Lover Come Back to Me", and "It's Been a Long Time". They all have an 80's disco-club feel that gets you up and dancing. Whether you listened to this album when it first came out, or have never heard Dead or Alive before, fans of dance music will love "Youthquake".
