4 out of 5 stars Fun, Positive, Good Sound   July 7, 2008

This is another project that demonstrates the versatility and talent of Superchick. It contains many different types of songs, but all of them are well done.

The lyrics are very positive. Some of them contain a subtle Christian message, although most are not very overt. Most of the songs are quite serious. It doesn't contain the extremely fun type song such as 'Bowling Ball' or anything as incredibly unique as 'We Live'. Nevertheless, it is a quality project.

I have been fond of this band for several years since I first heard 'We Live'. I introduced the group to my teenage daughter and she is a major fan. She rates this album as a five star. I see it as a little less stellar. It is not on a par with 'Beauty From Pain' or 'Last One Picked'. It is still well worth buying.

Although their target audience is teenage girls, they have a much wider appeal. Parents can be feel very safe purchasing any Superchick music for their teens. The 'old folks' might just like it as well.

Our family went to see Superchick in Salt Lake City, Utah in May and were anxiously awaiting the new album. We were not disappointed. This album (no pun intended) ROCKS!!! The guitar, bass and drum work is absoulutely mind-blowing. The vocals are outstanding. We hope to see Superchick back in SLC soon!

5 out of 5 stars the soundtrack for my summer, maybe my year!   June 25, 2008

i honestly cannot believe how amazing this album is. It's a little bit rock, a little bit pop, a little bit metal (listen to "Hey Hey" and try to tell me that you don't hear some heavy metal in there?!) and a little bit punk. Something for everyone!

i LOVE the vocal work on "Breathe" - I heard on a radio interview that there are something like SIXTEEN harmonies layered in that song alone! I'm sure we'll be hearing this tune on a show like Grey's Anatomy next season... I've never heard frontwoman Tricia Brock sound as rock and roll as she does in songs like "Cross The Line," "Alive" and "One More," and the band's musicianship shines all over this album. The electronic production and synth work kicks all the tracks up a notch into pure fun with a nod to the '80s, making this album really unique for this genre. Even Dave Ghazarian's guitar solo (which I admit I didn't think I'd like) turns out to be a stellar track that totally brings this album full circle as the guys in the band get a chance to rock what THEY got!

This is definitely going to the be the soundtrack for my summer (or maybe even my year?!), I can already tell. HIGHLY recommended.

5 out of 5 stars 'Rock What You Got' doesn't disappoint this listener   June 25, 2008

I first heard of Superchick from an "Acquire the Fire" event promo. I listened to a few clips from their "Beauty from Pain" CD and bought it. The message in their music is targeted to adolescent girls, which I didn't know at the time but I enjoy it just the same. My daughter and her friend love it and I'm comforted in knowing that the lyrics are positive.

When I found out about the June 23rd release of "Rock What You Got", I placed my pre-order and received it June 24th. This release is more of the hard hitting sounds I was hoping for like Beauty from Pain's "Anthem" and "One Girl Revolution". It definitely rocks! If you're hoping for more of an Avril Lavigne sound like Beauty from Pain's "Bowling Ball" as another reviewer cited you WILL be disappointed.

Superchick's message continues to be positive and the indirect references to God are more obvious than "Beauty from Pain". However, if you need songs with "God" and "Jesus" mentioned throughout then look elsewhere. If you need a CD to crank up in the car or get you through your gym workout then "Rock What You Got" is one to get!

3 out of 5 stars Where's the hooks?   June 25, 2008

I'm an old guy who was introduced to Superchick by my tween daughter. (Actually, I introduced her, but she got me hooked.) I'm not much into Xian music, but these guys earned my respect because they had great songwriting as well as delivery (and they sang about stuff I value). All their stuff (i) rocked, (ii) was chock full of hooks, and (iii) was fun. We just got this album in the mail today and while it pains me to say it, I think it is a step down for Superchick. Did they hit a writer's block? All the rockers are samey anthem-type songs ("Rock what you Got, Rock what you Got, Rock what you Got" or "I'm alive, I'm alive, I'm alive" or "Hey, Hey, Hey" or "One more, One more, One more" or "And we are, And we are, And we are" or "I'm Gonna, I'm Gonna, I'm Gonna"... You get the point.) All these songs seem to be cut from the same template--melodically and rhythmically. Halfway through the album you get the sensation that you're listening to the same song over and over again. Noticeably absent are the hooks that come from good songwriting exemplified in songs like "We Live". And where's the fiesty punk grrl fun which came out in songs like "Bowling Ball"? Point blank: musically, this album is disappointing. It's totally average...something I thought Superchick was not. Nevertheless, I remain a loyal fan and look forward to Superchick's next effort as I believe they are capable of so much more.
