Product Description This has the best collection of songs
Amazon.com These days she's fodder for tabloid writers and late-night comics, but way back in the '90s Mariah Carey ruled the charts. This two-disc collection offers up evidence why, for better or worse, Mariah's five-octave, pop/R&B stylings set the diva standard. Greatest Hits culls its offerings from Carey's five albums on Sony (she is now signed to Virgin), and you get all the facets of her platinum-plus sound. From the soulful smolder of her 1990 debut "Vision of Love" (still one of her best tracks) to the coyer-than-thou duet with Jay Z ("Heartbreaker"), Carey thrills, trills, and hits notes that only canines comprehend. Fans will gobble this collection up, but inclusion of some of Carey's more adventuresome remixes (e.g. the Puffy-produced "Fantasy," featuring ODB) might have made this package more noteworthy. --Amy Linden

A Blast from the Past! May 24, 2008 I like the album, of course, as I am a huge Mariah fan. I think though they could've added a few other favorites. But nonetheless, still good stuff!
Mariah's Greatest Hits May 18, 2008 This was a two cd set. One cd had a lot of well known hits and I liked it a lot. The other cd had few songs I knew, and was not nearly as enjoyable as the other cd. But overall is a good cd with lots of hit for the price.
Here's Where It All Began++++++++++++ May 2, 2008 Recently Mariah has been in the news breaking records set by the good ole boys (Elvis and the Beatles) and it's so nice to see her comeback to No. 1 again, besides she's looking great with the return to the charts. The Glitter years are behind her now (her lowest point during her career) and she showed us how to brush yourself off and get right back up.
This collection reminds us of why we first fell in love with her in the first place. WE LOVE YOU GIRL!!
1990 - 2001 : The Birth of a Legend April 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Remember that this 2 Disc set contains most of Mariah's best songs from 1990 to 2001. It stops just before the "Charmbracelet" Era, and therefore contains nothing from "Glitter", "The Emancipation of Mimi" or her 2008 album. The reason I'm stating this is because most people actually do not realize that this recording is about seven years old already, and is the perfect collection if you're into 'vintage' Mariah.
Which is not a bad thing. The 1990s saw Mariah rule the airwaves with back to back No. 1 hits, and all of them are here. My only issue with it is that Mariah's greatest song, "Breakdown" from the album "Butterfly" is nowhere to be found. This is a criminal overlook, because the song was released with a single and a video and even Mariah says its one of the best things she's ever done. Also sorely missing is the underrated "The Roof", which again is from the "Butterfly" album. Maybe you should also pick up the entire "Butterfly" CD while you're at it, as that is clearly Miss Carey's best album.
My personal favorite, "Can't Let Go" is here, and someone had the wise sense to include "Underneath the Stars" from the "Daydream" album - not many people know this song very well at all, but I'm glad to see it here. Get this album if you want a ready-reckoner of all those No. 1 hits Mariah has, or its also perfect as a gift for someone who is new to Mariah Carey. Surprisingly, this set is one of the weaker selling Greatest Hits out there (a mistake by Mariahs' record company as they released the shorter "1s" CD a while before this), but its certainly better than most.
Four and half Stars. Well Deserved, and a great introduction to one of our greatest living singers.
Mariah can't sing March 25, 2008 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
Why is this woman so popular? I've tried to like her but she just can't sing. She uses too much nasal, too much breath, and too much vibrato to cover up her weak voice.
