It's good, but 'Ultimate Collection' is better April 11, 2008 The Who's music has made classic rock a lot better. Their songs, like 'Won't Get Fooled Again' and 'Magic Bus' still are played on classic rock stations across the country every day.
This set, 1996's 'My Generation: The Very Best of The Who' remains the best single disc compilation, but unlike other bands, The Who cannot really be sized up onto one CD. But, I give MCA credit for trying.
And, despite that, they did a pretty good job. 'My Generation,' 'Magic Bus,' '5:15,' 'I Can't Explain,' 'Who Are You,' and 'Won't Get Fooled Again' all appear on this set. And, MCA did a great job remastering the songs, so the sound quality is supurb.
But there is plenty missing. Where are 'Behind Blue Eyes,' 'Bargain,' 'The Kids Are Alright,' 'Slip Kid,' 'Love Reign O'er Me,' 'Eminence Front' and 'Sister Disco'? And, why is 'Who Are You' EDITED!!! Come on, MCA!
Overall, there are much better Who sets out there. If you want nothing but the hits, buy 'The Ultimate Collection.' For casual Who fans, that is all you will probably ever need. And for fans who want their deep album cuts with a few hits mixed in, buy 'Hooligans.'
Recommended for the easily-pleased Who fan.
Best CD December 8, 2007 This is the best WHO, CD in my opinion. It has all the top hits and the sound and quality is first rate. I downloaded the CD onto my MP3 and listen to it at least three times a week when working out at the gym. It not only entertains me but gets me pumped for the workout.
WAY Out of Date September 6, 2007 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this CD long before "The Who: The Ultimate Collection" came out. Even when I bought it, I thought it was a regrettable compromise... sure it was missing some extremely awesome songs, but it was the best compilation and I didn't want to buy too many Who CDs. Now of course (or rather since 2002), The Who: The Ultimate Collection has made "My Generation" a complete waste of money.
DO NOT BUY THIS CD (Unless you get it used for a 1 or 2 dollars, anything more and it is not worth it)
Who Done It August 2, 2007 This album is a solid overview of the Who's biggest hits. All the stuff from the radio is here. Good CD to have if you're looking for a "summary" of the Who. Lots of good rock music on here and the Who definitely had their own sound, you're not going to mistake them for umpteen other bands. I didn't quite feel this album enough for 5 stars, tho. I guess I'm just not that big a fan. Good CD to throw on for a party, tho, no doubt. Sort of teh British analogue to the Steve Miller Band in that sense.
Sounds great March 22, 2007 The CD is in like new condition but the case had a small crack in it and adhesive on it. It still sounds great and who keeps those cheap plastic cases anyway.
