Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
2008 CD that represents highlights from the first 20 years of this great Blues singer's recording career. She made her first recordings at the age of 14, singing to the guitar accompaniment of the legendary Sylvester Weaver. These 1927 recordings in the classic female Blues style of the period brought her to the attention of the American music business. Although she worked and recorded with Harry James, she next appears on our CD recorded in 1938 as vocalist for The Count Basie Orchestra, a role she inherited from Billie Holiday. She managed to become as equally adept at small group R&B as she was at fronting Big Bands and worked in both genres throughout her career. Our compilation ends with a Buck Clayton All Stars session from 1947. 22 tracks. Acrobat.
