A couple of songs will be great live August 29, 2008 I enjoyed and continue to enjoy this album. Sounds much different from most of Trent's other stuff. Maybe most like "With Teeth". The first four songs (1,000,000, Letting You, Discipline, and Echoplex) are really good. Head Down is OK. The album then tapers off and finally finishes with "Demon Seed", another good rocking song. I thought this was a better album than "Year Zero"; I'm finding that I listen to this album quite a bit more than "Year Zero". Can't beat getting a trial listen of the entire album for free via the Creative Commons licensing and free download of the songs. Very shrewd on Trent's part to build hype around the album.
The Slip slips a little... August 28, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
While Trent has let go of some angst that once made him a leader of Gen X in the 90's, he doesnt quite deliver the power in the music or programming that once made Broken or Downward Spiral legendary. While some of the songs, like "The Four of Us Are Dying" really show NIN back in full form, Discipline, the first single, stalls right out of the gate. Demon Seed and Lights in the Sky are other highlights of this album, while Echoplex and Corona Radiata are radio friendly songs for 15 seconds at best. NIN really broke the mold with Ghosts, then fell back into the mold. Trent, get angry, get muddy, and save us.
Buy This Album August 27, 2008 An impressive album by Nine Inch Nails! I was blown away by Trent's decision to allow everyone to download the whole album for free. It's really impressive to see him embracing technology and the way it's changing the music industry instead of trying to fight it. I have been a Nine Inch Nails fan for close to 15 years now and because of his consideration of his fans by releasing this album for free to us, I decided to purchase the physical CD of the Slip to show my support. So I encourage everyone: be a good fan and support the artist, especially since this artist is trying to help his own fans!
Great CD August 27, 2008 This CD shows that Trent Reznor (Frontman of Nine Inch Nails) still has the creative mind to compose music worthy of our generation. Though over the recent years he has surely mellowed out in terms of hard-hitting loud and violent music, he is still creating melodies and lyrics that still define what Nine Inch Nails really is. The Slip is perfect for newcomers because of its short play time and catchy songs. The single "Discipline" is a wonderful example of his catchy songs that any fan of music would appreciate. "Echoplex" ends with a wonderful melody that might leave people humming it in their head. Unlike most Nine Inch Nails records this ends on a less slow ending with "Demon Seed" which has a mysterious meaning as to where Trent Reznor is taking his music in the future.
A Great Work of Musical Excellence August 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you have listened to Nine Inch Nails in the past, well, you should listen now more. Trent has assaulted his own standards of music with an even fresher sound and an more aggressive talent. Whether its the blood pumping track 1,000,000 or the politically charged Letting you, or the thumping beat of Discipline - you'll be happy you purchased the album.
All of the talent on this album are in his concerts, and after having pit tickets to his August 2008 Dallas show I can say without a doubt they are skilled. Live, on album, or in video on this disc - you will not be disappointed.
If you love electronic music, hard rock, or Nine Inch Nails - you should get this album in THIS edition. If you love to hear something great, and new, and something cutting edge - get THIS edition.
The video disc makes it a great deal alone!
