Album Description The third and most astounding album from the young and talented Swedish multi-instrumentalist Gustav Ejstes aka Dungen. This is the long awaited follow up to his two previous highly acclaimed albums, and this recording showcases the ultimate Swedish psych/prog/pop/folk rock! Ta Det Lugnt is a beautiful, uncompromising, multifaceted musical trip straight into your head and deep out in the Swedish forests. It offers Dungens most exciting and adventurous recordings and features stunning musicianship, stellar vocals, Hammond B-3 organ, flute, violin, groovy bass, swinging drums, electric and acoustic guitars and screaming fuzz, spellbinding Swedish folk rock pop psych. Subliminal Sounds.

Ace 1 # October 5, 2007 This album has literaly changed the way I think about music. These guys are so smart and talented it makes me feel stoopid, and I consider myself a musician! As good as any album out there (The Soft Bulletin, OK Computer, Sgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band, Animals, III, Going Blank Again, Modern Life is Rubbish). Please buy this album and worship it as I do. PS. thanks Nat!
Another Killer Swede Release September 7, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a very, very enjoyable disk to listen to. Sometimes not being able to understand lyrics (these are in Swedish) can diminish your excitement about a disk, but not on this one. The songs are very melodic (ala Beatles psych era) with Psychedelic freakout guitar reminiscent of Mr. Hendrix courtesy of Mr. Reine Fiske (ex- Landberk, Paatos.) Multi- instrumentalist Gustav Ejstes is truly a gifted songwriter/ performer, and along with Fiske and a few guest musicians, creates some memorable, entertaining moments. I like every song on here. There are no weak moments and I find myself hitting the "repeat" button quite frequently on my stereo. As has been stated by other reviewers, there is a bonus disk containing cool, short tracks that are quite entertaining as well. I would say that this CD would easily appeal to fans of Steve Hillage, mid- period Beatles or Hendrix. This really captures the spirit of the late- 60's splendidly. I most definitely plan on checking out their other releases.
Q: How do you transport back to the late 60s? A: Play this album September 11, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I will admit upfront that I had heard about the Swedish band Dungen, but not actually heard their music, until I saw them perform at Bonnaroo this past June, and boy, what a great set they put on! It was one of the highlights of the festival for me, and not long thereafter I bought this album.
"Ta Det Lugnt" (13 tracks, 53 min.) is a blast into the past, as if today was the late 60s, a collection of psychedelic songs and it sounds great from start to finish. Since the songs are all in Swedish, I have no idea what they are about, but it doesn't matter. The album is a mood piece, pure and simple. I think that Dungen is the only band besides Sigur Ros that has made a dent in the rock music landscape in the US while not singing in English. This album was originally issued in 2004, but this particular 2005 reissue comes with bonus CD (5 tracks, 14 min.) that brings more of the same, just great.
Dungen is not the only band that 'specializes' in bringing the sounds of the late 60s into today's context. Another great example is White Magic, whose 2004 release "Through the Sun Door" is another stellar example of that. Check that out. And of course "Ta Det Lugnt" is equally highly recommended!
Psych out February 27, 2006 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Dungen's third album "Ta Det Lungt" is not the sort of music that will get a lot of radioplay. Thank God. Instead, it's the sort of music that will deservingly acquire a cult following -- a sparkling, mad, wild musical psychedelic pop trip. This is probably the best Swedish import since Ingrid Bergman.
And there isn't any better way to open than with "Panda," a sparkling rock song that is both infectiously catchy and wonderfully rockin'. That fuzzy, cycling guitar works very well with the colorful Hammond melodies; it takes that great rock vibe and makes it fun as well.
Unless you are (or speak) Swedish, you probably won't understand a word Gustav Estjes sings. But somehow that's okay. He and his band forge through more wild tunes, like the echoing "Gjort bort sig," some mellow folk-rock, sprawling experimental songs (which brought a morning meadow to mind), and the sizzling riffs of the title track.
Not that everything is straightforward rock'n'roll; at the halfway point, things get a bit weird. "Det du taenker idag aer du i morgon" is a smooth, shimmering little pop song full of flute, drums and Hammond, and is probably one of the prettiest songs released in the past year. It's followed by a few ominous experimental songs and an epic folk ballad, before finally finishing with a blast of pure, wild psychrock.
This version also has a five-song EP attached to it, and which serves as a nice accompaniment to the album itself -- burbly experimental, sizzling rockers, and a sparkly little Sigur-Ros-like ballad. It's a nice addition, although not quite as moving as the main album.
Dungen was one of the unexpected underground hits of the year -- before "Ta Det Lungt," they weren't really known outside of Sweden. Thankfully, that has changed, because their third album puts them up in the ranking of appealing, enchanting music that happens to be fun from start to finish. You c
One of the greatest things about "Ta Det Lungt" is the giant mass of instrumentation, which is somehow squeezed into small songs. The fuzz guitar can explore the cascading riffs, while the drums can smash or shimmer. And there's flute, Hammond, violin and gentle acoustic guitar, making up a colorful musical quilt.
Gustav Estjes has a lovely voice, frankly. I don't understand a word of what he DOES sing, but his voice is pleasantly ordinary-sounding, but still able to soar. At times, he almost sounds like John Lennon. But his biggest skill is his ability to not be overpowered by (or overpower) the music -- he sounds like a natural part of it, as if he were another instrument.
Wonderfully weird, colorfully charming, "Ta Det Lungt" brought Dungen into the spotlight, which is where they deserve to be. Definitely one of the best albums of 2005.
Has John Lennon reincarnated as a Swede? February 16, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I say that with respect. This really is an amazing album, replete with instrumentation and production straight out of the glorious 60's. They had to have recorded this with vintage instruments, mixing consoles and analog tape. Their singing and playing may evoke The Beatles, but you won't hold it against them. Truly, Dungen has taken whatever influences from the past and made them their own. I am impressed. Make sure you buy this edition, as it comes with a bonus disc of more groovy sounds.
