Amazon.com essential recording Nimrod came along two years after 1995's Insomniac and was the first indication of Green Day's willingness to stretch the boundaries of punk rock. The fullness of the record is first hinted at on "Hitchin' a Ride," which starts out chug-a-lugging and then breaks into a raging rocker."Redundant" is accented with some psyched-out guitar work and has Billie Joe Armstrong singing a good deal more than usual. The wonderful "Platypus (I Hate You)" speed-rocks with abandon and recalls the early days of L.A. punk (a little Dickies here, a little Descendents there). The biting "Take it Back" is a snarling throwback to hard punk, and "Prosthetic Head" is an infectious ditty that counts among the very best on the album. Most surprising is "Last Ride In," an instrumental nod to the sensual surf-and-sun life. Of course, the crown jewel of the collection is the sentimental, acoustic "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)," which seemed nearly inescapable when it was released. Beyond these standouts, even the "usual" Green Day fare here has punch. --Lorry Fleming

freaks & geeks May 3, 2008 Green Day is such an awesome band and "Nimrod" is one of their best CDs. IMO it almost sounds like 1 giant song because all of the tracks almost fade in and out of each other. I love it. It's difficult to say which are the best, one of my favorite tracks is "Nice Guys Finish Last." Billie Joe sounds amazing on this track. And I also really liked "Time of Your Life" It's a shame music isn't made like this anymore.
Pleasantly surprised January 28, 2008 I purchased this for my son on his 10th birthday (yes, I know about the swearing). I was amazed by how many of these songs were on the International Superhits compilation and even more amazed at how much I liked the other songs. This is a really solid album, especially if you enjoy punk. If you don't, well...
Everyone and their mother gives music on Amazon 5 stars. I personally try to avoid this myself. But given that this album is 10 years old and holds up so well - I think that this album will hold up better than American Idiot (which I love), I have no choice. I don't think that these guys get enough credit for their songwriting or playing. It's hard to follow the Ramones and the Clash and not get labeled as derivative.
If you like high energy music and have a sense of humor, this might be the album for you.
their last great cd September 17, 2007 This is truly Green Day's last GREAT cd. It is their third best cd after Dookie and Insomniac. Their sound is definitely different from their earlier works being a little heavier and less punk. However, it is a lot better than their later works, which sound totally different than this stuff. It has really good catchy songs that have great replay value. Nice Guys Finish Last is a good song with a hilarious music video. Hitchin A Ride is good too as is Redundant, Haushinka, Walking Alone and Prosthetic Head. Good Riddance is the big radio hit of the bunch and has reached the status of a legendary sentimental song. I recommend this to ALL Green Day fans and to those who think rock music today sucks and are looking for good music of the past.
awsome! not my favorite, but awsome April 11, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Nice guys finish last is a cool song, they do swear a lot, but that doesn't matter a lot since i won't repeat them. Worry rock is also awsome along with reject and walking alone. Hitchin' a ride sounds really, really, really like an old-fashioned rock-music along with Green Day's signature individuality. I actually got this CD a few years ago (this was wrote in 2007) but I found this site last year. I may not like 'king for a day,' 'take back' or 'scattered', but good album!
The best green day cd EVER! March 16, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
First of all, i'm over 13. I just didn't want to open an acount.
Nimrod is the best green day cd. It has a lot of good punk songs on it like "All the time" and " Hitchen' a ride". I got this cd for christmas 2006 and I listened to it and I loved it. And if you got it and listened to it, you would feel the same. I hope that you will find this reveiw helpful.
