"I feel so moved." February 20, 2007 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
Madonna's poorly received "American Life" CD yielded only one minor hit - the title track peaked at #37 on Billboard's Hot 100. Nevertheless, several other singles were released. "Nothing Fails" was Madonna's third single from the CD, and it followed "Hollywood" as only the second in Madonna's long career to fail to chart on the Hot 100. What a pity, as "Nothing Fails" is one of the highlights of the "American Life" CD.
The original version of "Nothing Fails" begins with Madonna cooing, "I'm in love with you - you silly thing. Anyone can see." The sentiment is sweet, and it's been suggested that she wrote it about meeting hubby, Guy Ritchie. The song has been compared (somewhat unfavorably) by some people to her earlier "Like a Prayer," mostly because of the choir that kicks in toward the end. On this remix CD, the song has been amped up to appeal to dance clubs. Not surprisingly, "Nothing Fails" hit #1 on the Billboard Dance chart, as well as on the Dance Singles Sales chart.
As usual, Madonna enlists the help of some brilliant remixers, including Peter Rauhofer, Jason Nevins, and Tracy Young. Some of the remixes are definitely successful. Rauhofer's Classic House Mix is a rather straight-forward and faithful remix - it works overall. Jason Nevins' two remixes reconfigure the song more dramatically and therefore are more interesting as well. His Big Room Rock Mix is perhaps the best on the CD, successfully focusing on Madonna's repeated refrain "You're the one." Surprisingly, the only disappointment is Tracy Young's remix - a rather average affair. Unfortunately, all of the remixes really lose the sweetness of the song, which is what made "Nothing Fails" such a good song in the first place. So, although the remixes are generally solid, this CD ends up being an average Madonna release.
As a bonus, the CD includes several remixes of "Nobody Knows Me." The song was released only to clubs, where it peaked at #4 on the Billboard Dance chart. The song is not one of my favorites on the "American Life" CD, and the remixes don't help change that opinion.
Nobody knows me. September 29, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I never liked this song, and only bought the cd single for the Nobody knows me remixes. I am glad that I did, as there are 2 great remixes of the song on this cd single. They are: 1 Mount Sims Italo Kiss mix. 2 Peter Rauflofers private life part 1. This cd single is a great buy simply for the Nobody knows me remixes I mentioned, and the Above and Beyond remix is quite good also. Excellent buy for any Madonna fan.
I don't care what anyone says, I still love this June 22, 2006 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's so "in" to diss Madonna now, for some reason. It's ridiculous! This site called "Fles Dip: The Anti-Madonna Site" says: "...I'm sick of the press following every move she makes." Well, then I guess you'll have to make a hate site for every celebrity, because isn't the press SUPPOSED to follow every move they make? You guys sicken me. You may be "Expressing Yourselves", but don't call M fans hypocrites, because you people are doing it now just because you want to be popular (well, a few hated her from the beginning, but I digress). I'll stop ranting now and move on to the CD: NOTHING FAILS 1. Peter Rauhofer Classic House Mix (8:24, 11/10): GORGEOUS! Very nice effort, Mr. Rauhofer! 2. Nevins Big Room Rock Mix (6:45, 9/10): I really wanted to give this a 10, but couldn't. A lot of the vocals are left out. 3. Tracy Young Underground Mix (7:29, 9/10): Eh. That's what it is. This is the second-worst Madonna remix by Tracy Young. Her boring, rambling, weird "What It Feels Like for A Girl" remix (club mix) takes 1st place. 4. Nevins Global Dub (7:45, 9/10): Sounds a little repetitive. Sorry, Mr. Nevins. Better luck next time. 5. Jackie's In Love In the Club Mix (7:23, 11/10): Beautiful. The choir breakdown in the middle is so great. Let's hope Ms. Christie gets to come back for a "Confessions" remix! NOBODY KNOWS ME 6. Peter Rauhofer's Private Life, Pt. 1 (8:08, 11/10): Cool! A tribal extended mix! Why didn't they include Pt. 2? 7. Above & Beyond 12" Mix (8:45, 11/10): In all honesty, this isn't a TRUE 12". 12"s are supposed to be extended mixes. BUT, all terminology aside, this is absolutely wonderful. There's 2 or 3 "breathers" in here that make you feel like you're on a cloud. It's a great mix. 8. Mount Sims Italo Kiss Mix (5:25, 11/10): The best by Matt Sims, SOOO much better than his Old School Mix. l8r!

The third single from the excellent album American Life(no matter what critics and people said) is a really good song(the album version). However, all the remixes here are in my opinion boring and repetitive. the remixes doesn't really suit this beautiful ballad. But it's Nobody Knows me that truly shines in this maxi-single the three versions are really amazing. Buy this single but only for NKM these are the best remixes of any single from American Life.
NOTHING FAILS MADONNA October 20, 2005 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The third single from American Life is reminiscent of Like a Prayer because of its choral refrain. And only one remix version brought out that "glorious" part - Jackie's In Love in the Club Mix." i used to like the other remixes but then i realized they did not include this part. Only the jackie remix did justice to the beauty of the song. this is an injustice. the remixers, who i all admire by the way, could have used that chorus to set it apart from the compelling like a prayer.
nevetheless, despite the years, nothing seems to fail the one and only queen of pop - reinvented or not.
long live the queen...
