Bow to the Hole July 15, 2008 My first introduction to ZH was through their "when you were shouting..." video, I was instantly hooked by the powerful attack of Gene Hoglan's drums, the ripping guitar sound of Jed Simon's Guitar, the Killer bass playing from Byron Stroud, and the vocals. Good lord, the vocals on this album simply rock anything you've ever heard before. "The Heathen" has got to be the best vocalist I have ever heard in my life. He can go from King Diamond falsetto to Corpsegrinder Gutteral growls and everything in between in the course of one song. The vocals are not the only highlight, the whole album in chock full of catchy riffs powerful fills, and great bass work. Not to mention laugh your way through while headbanging with it.
Overall a masterful album, not only can you headbang but, you can laugh till you puke.
above SYL June 2, 2008 This is a few notches above Strapping Young Lads to me. It is just as heavy and in your face but it breathes and expands the metal assault. And Satan himself never sang better. Using different voices and personalities, he is very clever here expanding the range of this versatile soup of molten steel. The variety in the song writing makes a better listen than the assault of the SYL stuff. And the playing here by Hogland,Simon & Stroud is top notch Pure metal. Even within the variety there are no turkey songs.A real fun blast of quality extreme music and not as silly as previous Z-Hole recordings...

The Hole is the Law...... March 12, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Zimmer's Hole have done it again, now that SYL is over with (for now at least, hopefully they'll grace us with their presence again one day) Jed and Byron can now devote their time to Zimmer's Hole and now with the mighty Gene Hoglan on drummer duty you already know that this album is going to be a monster and that it is. Of course you can't forget the amazing frontman "The Heathen" whose vocal range is so immense that he can go from an 80's metal scream to extreme death metal and black metal screeching. He truly is one of the best vocalists around today. From the thunderous opener of the title track to the grinding ender "What's My Name...Evil" this album is 40 minutes of thrashy chunky metal riffs, funny satire and bathroom humor. You'll be headbanging and laughing at the same time. There's also a special guest appearance on "The Vowel Song." I won't say who it is but you'll be pleasantly surprised. You'll just have to hear it for yourself.I really can't say enough good things about this album,it's amazing and it really is a fun listen. Highly recommended and also it's got 3/4 of SYL and also Mr. Devin Townsend co-produced the album so you know it's going to be quality! The Hole is the Law!
