Lovin the Live August 26, 2010 JCee26 Fantastic Double CD. The new Live CD is great and it's great hearing new tracks!
Highly recommend to new or old fans.
Couldn't Stand the Weather (again) August 25, 2010 mcfly My favorite SRV album available, for the third time now...Why can't the "new" material stand on its own? I am so dense I would prefer to buy an SRV double set for full price, with less material, that is completely new. Again, I am that dense. I feel, as I have purchased all four studio albums twice already for those few extra cuts, except for CSW, of course, which I have now bought for a third that I feel I am being burned. Don't mention Solos and Encores which is 1/2 new.
I am sure all of the reviews of MY review will be negative, but someone has to say it. This is BS!
Yeah, buy it; the music is great, but how many times are you going to buy CSW before you say, "No more!"
Now excuse me, I have to go suck on a lemon!
The studio album is 5 stars, a little disappointed on the live tracks... August 20, 2010 Baberufus (West Jordan, UT USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In this day and age of no-talent bums who either can't sing at all (lip-sync) or not well enough for recording (auto-tuned), I find myself always revisiting CDs and DVDs of old, classic TALENTED artists like SRV. As a result, I was quick to snatch this re-issue up, what with more uncovered live material from 1984. I don't need to go into much detail in reviewing the basic album Couldn't Stand The Weather. It's one of the best blues albums of the 80's, hands down, and is indispensable for any blues or blues/rock lover's collection! From the ripping Scuttle Buttin' to the red-hot cover of Hendrix's Voodoo Child to the ultra-passionate reading of Tin Pan Alley, this album covers all the bases and hits a home run!
Regarding the extra live material...Though this is classic SRV, with the trio firing on all cylinders, the sound/mix quality is not that great. In fact, there is absolutely no bass...crank up your bass on your EQ, you'll need it. And even doing that obviously doesn't really fix it. Disappointing, but back in 1984 I'm sure it was harder to capture a quick live recording with the EQ and mix just right. So I'm not saying I got gypped, it's still valuable, enjoyable material to listen to, I was just hoping the sound quality would be at least as good as on the El Macambo DVD.
The extra studio tracks sound great, of course. There is some overlap between this release and past "vault" issues (like "The Sky is Crying" posthumous album), but that's only to be expected. I like the arrangements of some of the studio outtakes, where Stevie has to fill in more where Reese Wynans would add to later on, like "Little Sister". Reese is great, of course, but this just adds to the variety of SRV material to listen to.
So I recommend this release even for SRV fans who already own one (or all 3--lol) of the previous versions of this album!
Truly amazing SRV you are my hero August 17, 2010 Guitarman (Seattle WA) To all blues fans , buy this CD it is truly a master master master piece of guitar playing, truly Stevie your a hero for all players world wide . From AUSTIN to BOSTON'''SRV and "SERIOUS TROUBLE". August 15, 2010 Rick "Fourstrings" Lauzon (Lehigh Acres,FL.) I am "Rit the Git"..why, caused I started playing the rhythm guitar, Bass, leads, mandolins, and learned a lot from a lot of books if I could get my warm fingers on them...I could run the best of riffs when I was only 11 and on TV..My dad bought me a #1214 Harmony to see "if I had it in me".
I had that plus piano, organs, I played Guitar Boogie Shuffle better than anyone I met and ended up slapping snot out of my 2 "Kent" Basses (twins) and joined up with anyone that felt he-she had something to play.
We always did country, Rock-a-Billy, then we blended in with the top blues players, and we showed the audiences where we stood: Alongside of SRV and as he said on Montreaux: "We were here last couple of years back, got "Booooed"" and on the same year "we won a Grammy" by misunderstanding Swedes who spoke and screwed up "Montruex"(Booooooo!) and the fun for all.
I caught SRV when the organist, joined up in 1984 then they just laughed it all off when He admitted to "booze" and "Beans", but now he was running pure and we were in for some "real blues(And,...with and from the heart~!)
I am still jammin' for my after 45 years of Rock and Blues, Southern Rock, playing the Strat, the P-Bass, and a fistful of anything that I set my heart to playing.
You must catch this CD, or LP, DVD's anything, but, screw the pretending here's how Stevie would do it's" out there .
They're fakes, I thought I could learn, but, "listen to your heart."
Proud to have seen him in "Providence Theater" in his last sets....Let's have a moment of silence and then get the CD, DVD, or any you can get into.
Remember "Stevie" and as he called the four of the best in Montreaux 1985...thanks, Chris, Tommy, and the last to make "Double Trouble" as Stevie said it best: "Serious Trouble"...I felt a name change commin'~!
Again,
"Rick-the-Guit"...Fourstrings
