| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Mississippian Fred McDowell did not record until the 1960s blues revival when he was first "discovered." Bonnie Raitt struck up a friendship with him, and he refined her slide guitar playing. This album captures McDowell in a band setting with properly unobtrusive players. McDowell plays a percussive, loping guitar emphasizing his dry vocals with stinging slide repetitions as on "Diamond Ring." He's a great electric country blues player, and this album, like all of his recordings, is exciting. This CD includes 10 tracks previously unreleased, to boot. --Robert Gordon

Must-have blues December 4, 1999 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I very rarely write in to amazon, but...for anybody who is thinking about buying this disc, do it! Six months ago I ran across an old McDowell record in a used record shop. Without a doubt he is, in my opinion, the most gripping blues musician I've ever heard. The man has an INCREDIBLE voice, plays the guitar beautifully, and writes compelling songs. I've heard blues purists scoff at this album, because he plays an electric guitar on it, but the versions of songs here have all the passion of his classic acoustic versions, (and those acoustic albums of McDowell's are great records too)
