Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
The 2008 album from Dwele, is Sketches of a Man. This album brings Dwele back to a more gritty, experimental, and non-overproduced sound - one that originally caught listener's ears with his first EP demo Rize released in 1998.

5 out of 5 stars STRONG FOLLOW UP !   September 6, 2008
"Sketches of a Man" is a strong follow up to Dwele's previous work, "Some Kinda" - it exhibits growth, maturity & a greater sense of style - a must have for hardcore fans ( as well as newcomers searching for a poetic wordsmith's kindred spirit ).

5 out of 5 stars Great Work   September 5, 2008
I cant say that im a huge Dwele Fan...in fact i never really even listened to his first 2 albums like that cause when i tried to get into them i just got lost in a cloud and didnt know what the F-- he was talking about on some of his topics...although the beats were always bumping. I guess i never got in to him like that, but how could u not like the kid, i mean J-Dilla loved him and I loved J-Dilla. So i gave him a chance on this album. I bought it and i think that it is a masterpiece album. I give it 5 stars cause you can tell he worked real hard on this and i think its close to a Classic. Good work Dwele...Now maybe ill listen to your other albums and give them a chance, but im going to have to listen REAL REAL REAL hard in a silent room to exactly what your saying dude...LOL

5 out of 5 stars DWELE!!!!!!!!!!!   September 3, 2008
Dwele,Sketches of a Man.I am enjoying this CD immensely.I play this at least once a day,(it goes to work with me)I love the way it flows, the way he tells his stories, the tracks, everything. Its smooth, jazzy, sexy, thought-provoking-I have recommended this one to all of my friends. An outstanding production, looking forward to hearing more from this artist.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Music   August 31, 2008
This CD is great from the begining to the end. Each track lets you see how gifted and talented Dwele is. The R&B, jazz flavor gives you the versitility of this artist. "Cheatin" is one of the many great songs on this cd. I would suggest everyone get a copy of this somewhat looked over artist.

Why aren't more people familiar with this remarkably talented gentleman? It is my wish that more music lovers familiarize themselves with male talent like Dwele, Rahsaan Patteron, Urban Mystiq and Calvin Richardson. People just don't know what they are missing. Ladies, you just don't know what you're missing. I was drawn to Dwele when I first heard a song he did called "Let Your Hair Down." His smooth tenor and creative lyrics took me in early on and after that, I was certain I wanted more.

Firstly, the album title and cover are creative and innovative. He was clearly a man prior to this compilation (listen to his previous works, "Subject" and "Some Kinda.") He pours his heart and soul into these tracks, but never overdoes it. He never uses his voice in a showy way, but he gets his point across effectively anyway. Most of the songs are mid-tempo, but you have a handful of faster tracks and quite a few ballads. Oh, and yes, there are some interludes. Sometimes interludes take away from the quality of the album, but here they make it even better. "Blow Your Mind" is a mid-tempo song and Dwele's lyrics and harmony are nice. My absolute favorite song here is "If You Want To." This song is pure genius! Everything from the production to the lyrics to the melody are nothing short of wonderful. "Love Ultra" is another great song, I really like the lyrics.

I highly recommend this album to anyone who loves the sound of music. Many complain that music isn't as good as it was in the 70s and 80s. To those individuals, listen to Dwele; I'm certain he will alter your opinion. 4 shining stars for SUCH a great job!

Mikeisha's Top 5

1."If You Want To"
2."Vain"
3."Love Ultra"
4."Open Your Eyes"
5."70s"
