The reason why German albums sold in North America are so often compilations of beer-drinking songs such as this compilation of 14 all-time favorites from the Bavarian Beer Singers is that drinking beer is very important in Germany. Not because the beer is so good, indeed a good reason per se, but because it is a venue to socialize and enjoy the company of other people. All Germans know most if not all of these songs by heart--from "Trink, Trink, Bruederlein Trink" to "Ein Prosit der Gemuetlichkeit"--and they can evoke homesickness or nostalgia. The liner notes give these instructions "How to enjoy this album":

Pour yourself a stein of beer.
Turn on the compact disc.
Sit down in a comfortable chair, take a sip of beer, close your eyes, and visualize the scene.

They've got it almost right--this is really music to sing with other people, so after you pour your beer and put the CD on--sit down with a good friend or a few to enjoy. --Erik Macki

3 out of 5 stars Trust your instincts when deciding to buy this one.   August 29, 2008
Yes, everyone does mention the crowd noise in the background. You can hear it when sampling the music, it's overwhelming, but I still couldn't resist buying it because it just sounds like everyone is having such a good time. I think that's the "hook." I may use it at my Oktoberfest, but for those who like to sing along, or even attempt to, this will prove difficult to do with this CD unless you already know the words and melody. I would say you hear 25% voice and 75% crowd. If they could have only reversed that, this CD would be perfect for me. But if that's what your looking for, Prost!

2 out of 5 stars beer songs   April 5, 2008
SONGS ARE RECORDED FROM AN OCTOBERFEST CELEBRATION SOMEWHERE,
SONG LYRICS ARE NOT COMPLETE ,OR AUDABLE AT MOST POINT.
THE MOST FRUSTRATING THING IS THEY DONT FINISH MOST SONGS.

Very satisfied with the CD. Also, I received it on time and in perfect condition.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Oktoberfest Music   November 3, 2007
This album is fantastic for an Oktoberfest! Especially good once the party gets rolling and everyone is into their second or third mug of German Bier!

What I loved about this CD when I listened to the clips was that it sounded like a party and would make my Oktoberfest sound like even more of a blast than it was. It is everything I hoped it would be - WUNDERBAR!!! Perfect background music for an Oktoberfest Party!!! Just add sauerkraut and sausages, pretzels & beer, a good travel video of Oktoberfest, some blue and white streamers and balloons, a game of Dutch Blitz, throw in some swaying at the table and some line dancing to and from the kitchen, and finish with the Chicken Dance (which you'll have to find on another CD). Oom-pa-pa good!!!!
