| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com essential recording The indefatigable folk trio of Peter, Paul & Mary is a wonderful focal point for younger listeners, toward whom this two-CD set is clearly geared. With a decidedly left-leaning approach to its craft--at least as far as the lyrics are concerned--the group selects great examples from its lengthy recording career. "If I Had a Hammer" veers from solemn consideration to exultant declaratives, working excellently enough that adults will certainly dig the music. Ditto for "Down by the Riverside" and "Light One Candle," which booms with an added mixed chorus, giving the song the power of a protest anthem. Not to paint this as an altogether-too-serious effort, though--"This Land Is Your Land" and "Puff (The Magic Dragon)" sweep the ears of kids up in deceptively minimal movements by the trio. Put succinctly, these two CDs mix kid-oriented and adult-oriented music with just the right touch. --Andrew Bartlett

Peter, Paul & Mary Around the Campfire October 21, 2008 Around the Campfire We bought this CD for my mother because of all the songs on it that she has sang at different summer camps. It has brough back lots of memories and would recomend it to anyone.
Bringing back memories June 26, 2008 I remember singing their songs around a campfire and later singing 'Puff the Magic Dragon' to my child. The CD is great!
All my favorite PPM! March 10, 2008 I couldn't resist this album... twice! Kisses Sweeter Than Wine, Marvelous Toy, Right Field, Light One Candle... I bought it the first time for my grade school daughter, who lost it. So I bought another one for myself!
Good Follow-up for Peter, Paul and Mommy October 29, 2007 I received Peter, Paul and Mommy as a gift for my 3 year old son. We listened and listened and LISTENED to this CD in the car. Usually I cannot bear to hear music too many times in a row, but I was able to hear Peter, Paul and Mommy without really tiring of it. The harmonies are so beautiful, and the sound quality is so good (was it re-engineered, or were PP&M's engineers really ahead of their time?), and the arrangements so nicely balanced and varied. But what about Around the Campfire? you are asking. All the things that are true of Peter, Paul and Mommy are also true of Around the Campfire. It is a 2 CD set, so there is even less chance of tiring of the music from repeated listenings. The folk songs are pretty good content for a 3 year old - the stories are fairly simple, and since I grew up listening to these songs, I know most of them and can sing along. Some complicated, grown-up issues are raised in some of the songs, and this can lead to some difficult conversations. None of them have been too awkward, though, and I like that he is developing an awareness of the world that goes beyond Barney and Mickey Mouse.
Just old fashioned fun campfire songs December 26, 2006 These are great sing-a-long songs for campfires or roadtrips for any age. Some songs I've know forever and some I had never heard of but enjoyed learning and now know by heart. This is fun, fun stuff for all ages.
