| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com essential recording Freshly remastered and reissued with all its pop and zip enhanced, here is one of the stellar recordings of the jazz-rock fusion era. Underpinning this jumping, multirhythmic, fathoms-deep groove music is the percussive power that Herbie Hancock, on squawking, scratching, stuttering, pulsing electronic keyboards, and Paul Jackson on thrumming, wah-wahing bass, add to Mike Clark's straight-up, rock-solid, propulsive drumming. From there, any band member can swoop and dive in celebration of Hancock's vibrant compositions. Bennie Maupin brilliantly deploys several horns in spare, soulful, and otherworldly ways. But listen carefully, too, for the broad palette Hancock employs in lead and comping roles. He augments the streak of Bill Evans melodicism evident in earlier, acoustic years with sustained funk fire and shuddering R&B drive. --Peter Monaghan

The Best Of Herbie May 29, 2008 "Thrust" is the ultimate statement by the Headhunters, and ranks as Herbie Hancocks best and funkiest album. Highlighted by the bombastic drumming of Mike Clark (who knew a white boy could groove THAT hard) "Palm Grease" features Herbie's now trademark Rhodes and Clavanet. Yet, "Thrust" features a dominating arsenal of ARP synthesizer's that add awe-inspiring textures to all four tunes. Throughout "Palm Grease"'s 10 minutes Herbie and Bennie Maupin shoot fire over Paul Jackson and Mike Clark's endless groove. "Actual Proof" features Maupin on Flute, and showcases one of Herbie longest electric piano solo's. The melody of this tune is also unforgetable. "Butterfly" is where things get REAL good. This eleven minute groove features some of the best Sax, Rhodes, and Synth playing ever but of vinyl. If you bought the album for one song, this would be the one. Side two was rounded out by "Spank-A-Lee", a the funkiest number, purely influenced by Sly. This album is more than a worthy follow up to "Headhunters", and it's follow-up "Man-Child" is worthy as well.
Thrust January 7, 2008 If you are like me and you like the magical fusion of funk and jazz, you MUST have this CD. It is not as experimental as 'Sextant', but it is surely as groovy and laidback as 'Head Hunters.'
A real funky jazz classic! September 10, 2007 This album is hittin' neck and neck with the "Headhunters". I just love the song "Butterfly" off of this classic recording. Herbie layed it down once again. This cd is for any real jazz lover to have in their archives.
Essential Album August 24, 2007 This album is an essential album for anyone who likes funk, Herbie Hancock, Fusion, or even exciting music in general. Herbie Hancock's "Headhunters", this band, consists of Herbie on keyboards, Bennis Maupin on reeds, bassist Paul Jackcson, drummer Mike Clark, and percussionist Bill Summers. The first track "Palm Grease" starts off with a great drum beat that sounds like it's in some crazy timing buy it's really in 4/4, and it gets better from there. Listen for awesome solos and great percussion by Bill Summers. "Actual Proof" has a great bass line and great solos throughout. "Butterfly" is the slowest track on the album, but it also speeds up to double time and has a great theme. The final track on Thrust, "Spank-A-Lee" is similar in tempo and feel to "Actual Proof" and is a great song. All of the songs have outstanding solos.
1. Palm Grease (10:38) 2. Actual Proof (9:42) 3. Butterfly (11:17) 4. Spank-A-Lee (7:12)

Along with Head Hunters I, his best work May 7, 2007 In my opinion, this album/CD, along with the first Head Hunters, is Herbie's best work. These are great funk/jazz compositions. They blew my mind when I first heard them back in the 70's and like all great art they transcend time. They are must have. A nice fit with these two pieces is Headhunters "Survival of the Fittest"
