Alvin and the Chipmunks May 5, 2008 This is such an enjoyable movie, a little on the grown-up side for some children. But still a great movie.
Great book April 15, 2008 Great book. Throughly have enjoyed reading it. Only problem was the packaging. The packaging caused a slightly mangled book to arrive, the product was great once I fixed it though.
Alvin and the Chipmunks December 14, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Junior Novelization of ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS tells a very touching story based on the motion picture. The Chipmunks, even on the printed page, are adorable and humorous. The story is somewhat sad, but with a happy ending.
The themes of the book are family, the kind of love that should be experienced in a family, and that children (in the form of Chipmunks) need routine and discipline. The story is told in a fast paced, exciting way.
My only gripe with the book, and the reason for four stars and not five, is the one-time use of the word "sucks" in a book that I assume is intended for six- to ten-year-olds. I am sure the word (and perhaps others) are used in the movie, but I thought a "Junior Novelization" should be "Rated G".
Alvin, Simon, and Theodore have returned! November 22, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is based on the new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie that will hit theaters this December. As the cover says, it is a Junior Novel and is, of course, aimed at younger readers. But that didn't stop me from enjoying it!
What I was most afraid of when I found out that the Chipmunks were making a comeback was not their new looks, or their new size. What I was most afraid of was that their personalities might be changed. But they still act like the same chipmunks we all know and love, and Dave is portrayed fairly well, too.
After Dave takes in the Chipmunks, he writes the famous "Chipmunk Song," which they perform for a big-shot at a record company. This man, Ian, is impressed with their talent and turns them into stars practically overnight. All Ian wants, however, is to make some easy money off of the Chipmunks. He slyly turns the trio against Dave and takes them on a long worldwide tour. In the process, he works them to exhaustion and changes their image and music completely. The Chipmunks hate what Ian has done and want to return to Dave, but Ian refuses to let them go. And so, Dave must rescue them from this selfish man.
The book had plenty of humor in it (I laughed a lot, but everyone has their own sense of humor) and lots of adorable moments. I expect nothing less of the soon-to-be-released movie, as well.
I would recommend this book to any young (or just young-at-heart) Alvin and the Chipmunks fan out there!
