| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Recorded on the Dallas date of the 2003 Summer Sanitarium arena tour, with Metallica, Limp Bizkit, et. al, Live in Texas is a concise, no-frills two-disc DVD/CD souvenir of the muscular Linkin Park live experience. 5.1 Surround Sound captures every nuance of Brad Delson's explosive guitar, the incendiary turntable flourishes of DJ Joseph Hahn, and the interplay between MC Mike Shinoda and singer Chester Bennington (although the audience sing-along on "Numb" gets lost across the barricades), as the sextet runs through a tight set of selections drawn exclusively from its bestsellers Hybrid Theory and Meteora, with the big hits ("Crawling," "In the End") programmed toward the climax. Casual fans may grumble about the absence of extras--there's no backstage-with-the-band documentary or viewing angle options, no previously unreleased songs--but hardcore devotees (who get plenty of face time on the DVD) should appreciate the opportunity to revisit the thrills of Linkin Park in concert whenever they wish. --Kurt B. Pretty Cool DVD February 10, 2008 This CD/DVD package is essentially just one concert from Linkin Park put together from two nearly-identical shows, one taken at Reliant Stadium in Houston, and Texas Stadium in Dallas, on the Summer Sanitarium 2003 tour.
The DVD recording is very energetic; I've actually seen Linkin Park live before and it more than properly captures the intensity of their live act. The camera angles are varied, and sometimes focus on each band member during songs. There are shots of the general-admission crowd, cheering loudly and moshing, and these shots are dispersed between songs and at points in which the moshing is the most intense (although I found it amusing that neither stadium is more than half full, as Limp Bizkit and Metallica had yet to perform). The quality of the picture is crystal clear, as if you're actually there; the viewer can easily see the sweat dripping off Chester Bennington's shirt. There are points at which the footage moves in slow motion just before a huge chorus, further intensifying the fast sections. Between the songs, Mike Shinoda and Bennington pump up the crowd, and the viewer can see scenes of the band prepping for the show. Overall, the camera effects and the cutscene editing work great to create a well-balanced, energetic DVD that captures two spliced-together 70-minute sets in spectacular grandeur.
Now for the CD. It pales in comparison to the DVD, and as one opens the package, one can easily see the focus placed on the DVD: it is placed in the very first fold of the package, while the CD is placed in the very back. As for the content, it features the only about 42 minutes of the set and contains mostly the band's biggest hits, subtracting the five most energetic DVD tracks ("Don't Stay", "With You", "By Myself", "Figure.09", and "A Place For My Head). It also nearly completely cuts out the comical microphone play between Shinoda and Bennington. It sounds a bit deflated when compared to the high energy of the DVD.
The CD, if it stood by itself, probably could have gotten a three-star rating from me. The DVD, however, is five-star worthy for the reasons listed above, hence the four-star average. Buy this collection for the great DVD, and pop in the CD if you're bored later on.
FAVORITE December 11, 2007 This is my favorite album to listen to from Linkin Park. It has easily been played a few hundred times while in my car...I recently just had to get another one because I wore the first one out. If you like Linkin Park, you will LOVE this cd.
Good concert September 4, 2007 If you like to listen live songs and hits only, this one's for you, plus a dvd to see it for yourself. I'm a fan of LP, one in my collection, I like studio versions better though, cause of sound quality, but i bought this more to change routine and to have the concert on DVD. Great album!!!!
