Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
2008 album from the R&B superstar. Here I Stand is Usher's follow-up to his history-making, nine-times platinum-selling Confessions. The album tells the story of growth: triumphant, reflective, somewhat defiant and it marks a new period in Usher's life and creative expression. Here I Stand finds Usher working with some of the best producers and writers around including Polow Da Don, Jermaine Dupre, Dre & Vidal and Dream & Tricky Stewart. Features the first single 'Love In The Club'. Laface.

4 out of 5 stars Plesantly surprised   July 4, 2008
I have to say that I didn't expect to like this album, even after hearing good reviews from friends about it. Well, I'm really glad I gave it a shot, it's a wonderful, mature album and I basically like every song. Usher did a great job this time around.

4 out of 5 stars Maturity & Vulnerability Makes A Great Artist   July 3, 2008
You're not gonna find another "Yeah!" here or another 8701. What you will find is a reflection of a real man in a real part of his life. This is the strongest effort I've heard out of Usher and I didn't skip any of the songs once I put the CD in. It did take a few listens to get the message, only because I myself am not in a committed, substantial relationship. It's a different, more mature vibe than his previous efforts considering that "Confessions" was a bit more mature than his first three efforts. My favorite cuts "Here I Stand", "Before I Met You", "Moving Mountains", "Trading Places", "The Best Thing" with Jay-Z and "Love You Gently". There are a few misteps like "This Ain't Sex" which sounds more like a demo for an unsigned artist than a track on a star's album. "Sex In Club Pt. 2" a terrible use of Beyonce & Lil' Wayne and what's the point of doing a second part when you have a remix with T.I.?. It would've been nice to see a more original cut with Beyonce on the album. Although he gave more than I expected, it would've been a near flawless album without the misteps.

Usher thinks he's all that and acts that way but when you hear the results then you hear what's really up.
Artists like Prince and Marvin Gaye didn't have anything to prove because they were REAL innovators.
They didn't have to act cool. They simply were.
This album reaks of 2nd rate material with a man who lost his edge even though that edge was never sharp to begin with.
Do yourself a favor and pick up "let's get it on" by marvin gaye if you want a real playas album and if ya want the funk with a dash of love then pick up the isley brothers "the heat is on".
This is music when real musicians not computers were used all the time and when true originals were doing their thang.
Speaking of mr. cool usher, i remember seeing him on the ellen show (Don't like ellen but her guests are sometimes worth watching) and she asked him to dance and he almost tripped on his feet.
Mr. Smooth...NOT
This album is LAME and so is most of this pathetic music industry.

well it is good music but not the same Usher for me....he has grown and i must respect that but it is not the same love songs/sexy songs he is so known for...he has some music with a great beat and deep thoughts...i think i will grow to love this collection but on two previous Usher cd's i loved the music from beginning to end immediately...
