HUGE sound June 13, 2008 I love this album. As a big fan of 80s/90's hard rock/hair metal, this is one of the best. The sound on this CD is huge, even though it's not remastered. I met the drummer at a recent show and he told me that their producer had pumped the big sound into it back when it was recorded, and it shows. Great tunes, great fun! Get it!
Simply the Best February 17, 2008 I'm an avid fan of 80s melodic rock, which of course carried into the 90s, and this is by far my favorite album in that genre. Every song is full of great hooks, great drumming, C.J.'s awesome vocals, and incredible guitar by the great Bill Leverty.
It's rare that I find an album where I like every song - but this is one of those albums. Don't pass up this album!
better than its best known songs August 14, 2007 It's not uncommon for the opening album to be a the pinnacle for a band, especially when it comes to hair metal. This album is no exception; its clearly Firehouse's best work. Strangely underrated, the hard rock numbers on this album are on par with similar offerings Dokken, Poison, Slaughter, etc, particularly on "All She Wrote" and "Helpless". "Oughta Be A Law", "Shake and Tumble", and "Lover's Lane" are the typical male-fantasy schmaltz, but the music is good and the production is solid. If you are missing your album from your 80's hair metal lineup, either because its a 1990 issue or for other reasons; pick it up. You can slide it in right next to "Tooth and Nail", "Out of the Cellar", or even "Dr. Feelgood".
Ironcially, I find one of the band's best known tunes, "Don't Treat Me Bad", sticking out like a different production on this album. Nothing on this album sounds as polished or as punchless as that track. I happen to like the tune, but it really almost doesn't fit the rest of the lineup. Also, one reviewer said this band wrote great ballads. I'd have to disagree. The ballads on this album are pure sap; so sticky sweet you could have Aunt Jemimah flying a maple flag on the cover and not be sappy enough. "Love of a Lifetime" and "Home Is Where The Heart Is" are about as weak as you can get without dropping your pulse. These tracks are nowhere near the best power ballads of the era and are best avoided. This album would be five stars without them.
Awesome Work. June 4, 2007 This is my personal favorite Firehouse album. Song after song, the variety and richness of the sounds goes on and on.Don't walk away gives you the chills, the way is sung is very intense. It is a must to have.
Typical 80's Hair Band May 20, 2007 This band is your typical 80's hair band. If you like that type of music, then this is a must buy. Outta be a Law is fantastic. They also throw in your typical ballad in Love of a Lifetime. Great 1st album followed by an average 2nd album.
