Weezer was one of the unlikeliest success stories of the post-Nirvana alt. rock boom, a band whose initial multi-platinum success (spawning the successful singles "Buddy Holly," "Undone," and "Say It Ain't So" and high-profile videos by Spike Jonze in its wake) was arguably its most ironic aspect. Indeed, the band's geek-appeal was refreshingly organic, a charm that came sharply into focus on leader Rivers Cuomo's painfully sincere, slice-of-loser-life songs and the energetic, pop-grunge confections the band concocted around them. This deluxe, double-disc edition of one of the '90s key rock albums treats the original collection's 10 tracks to a new, 24-bit digital remastering, as well as insightful liner notes and the reproductions of the songs original, often scrawled lyric sheets. But it's the second disc that will hold the greatest appeal to Weezer fans, gathering 14 tracks that encompass import b-sides and outtakes that include winsome, affectionate odes ("Mykel and Carli," "Suzanne," "Jamie") aimed at everyone from the band's friends to its label personnel and lawyer. Other highlights include the oddball barbershop quartet exercise "My Evaline," several live and acoustic cuts from the album's tour as well a handful of insightful, previously unreleased home and studio demos. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars Poppy & Universal and Forever Geeky   April 27, 2008

Weezer released this debut album (later referred to as the Blue Album) and indie/alternative rock fans fell in love. The songs were ever-so catchy, but had hooky riffs and a simplicity, along with goofy lyrics molded into each song, making them clever and moving. Lyrics like -- I want a girl who will laugh for no one else, when I'm away she puts her makeup on the shelf, when I'm away she never leaves the house -- show how geeky love inspired singer River Cuomo feels in his insecure self-doubted way through-out the whole album.

The dorky charm is what makes this album great. It's poppy and universal, but in it's own un-hip cool alternative way. They became one of the biggest alternative bands of the '90's. The song "Buddy Holly" is not only catchy but interesting and entertaining. You can't help but sing along to the chorus. The video even makes a rendition of a Happy Days set-black & white and forever geeky.

I previously owned the original Blue Album, and it was totally worth the money to upgrade to the Deluxe edition. Everything was great.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Album   December 30, 2007

What a great way for a band to start, by making one of the greatest albums in Rock history! I can't get tired of "the Blue Album". I listen to it about six times a week and it still isn't old. It is pure genius, there is no other word to describe it. What I love about Weezer is that their sound is their own, you just can't find Rock like this like you can on a Weezer album. Each record always has something new, which really adds to the lifespan of the album. That's why this one has stood the test of time.

I mean, look how many hits are on here! There isn't one bad song to be found. Even the lesser known songs on here are amazing. I truly can't stop listening to the album. Perfection

5 out of 5 stars Wow! This is great!   December 1, 2007

If you are a Weezer fan and/or a Blue Album fan, than this is a must have. The first disc is classic but it's the second disc that makes this worthwhile. The second disc is awesome. The music is right in line with the rest of the style of the first disc and rocks.
