Amazon.com The standout cuts on this follow-up to Kathleen Edwards's highly praised debut, Failer, serve notice that the Canadian artist has no intention of remaining a cult favorite in the States. The opening "In State" evokes the anthem-like sweep of Tom Petty's "Refugee," complete with signature organ by the Heartbreakers' Benmont Tench, though its lyric of a prison-bound paramour smacks of deja vu, Failure having opened with a similar narrative. The propulsive title track, with its irresistible double-entendre hook, deserves to be Edwards's breakthrough hit, while the yearning "Old Time Sake" and the buoyant yet bittersweet "Summerlong" expose a disarming tenderness underlying her tough-chick bravado. Over the course of the album, too much of the midtempo material sounds too much the same, more inspired lyrically than musically, failing to sustain the momentum of the opening tracks. The stripped-down intimacy of "Away" will likely rekindle comparisons to Lucinda Williams, but this artist sounds eager to outgrow those. --Don McLeese Influences and Contemporaries Whiskeytown, Strangers Almanac | Whiskeytown, Faithless Street | Sarah Harmer, You Were Here | Sarah Harmer, All of Our Names | Lucinda Williams | Lucinda Williams, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road |
Album Description Bursting onto the music scene in 2003 with her critically acclaimed debut album Failer, Kathleen Edwards quickly found herself performing on the Letterman and Leno shows, opening for The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan, and championed by Rolling Stone as one of the year's most promising acts. Now that the dust has finally settled, Edwards has delivered on the promise of Failer with a roots rock masterpiece. Back to Me confirms Kathleen Edwards as one of today's most talented new artists.

back to me is May 8, 2008 intriguing lyrics by a raw young talent. Her voice is sexy and somewhat unpolished, but you can see her growth and hard work ethic in the latest video on rave tv..worth every penny...
Why women will always rule the civilized world. May 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If Neal Young was a beautiful woman born after his heyday as a performer, he might be Kathleen Edwards. Ms. Edwards can really write and really bring down the mood without even breaking into a Blues Riff.
Back to me contains brilliant writing wonderful chord progressions and unforgettable hooks. And for me the title song thoroughly explains why men will always be on the stupid side in the battle of the sexes.
While Ms. Edwards vocals are not amazing, the songwriting and wit are so phenomenal, and so believable, it doesn't matter. I only wish that there was a place for her in American Radio. Or even stores. Last fall I tried to buy this CD at Borders, and they were clueless as to who she was, they located the album on their computer system, but I got it elsewhere. If it wasn't for Amazon, I never would have heard of her.
If you love singer songwriter music, and aren't afraid of catching the blues, this is a CD for you.
I love this woman. April 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Now the only thing is to get her to marry me (lol). This is a very very good album by a very talented singer-songwriter. Good songs, great voice and equally good songwriting.
My new favorite artist... October 25, 2007 Kathleen Edwards is absolutely terrific - great stories, great music. I was a fan after one listen to 'Failer' - now that album and 'Back to Me' are top of my favorites list.
pure bliss August 3, 2007 I guess Kathleen Edwards is too good to be a huge star. Perfectly crafted songs, heartbreakingly beautiful vocals and a grittiness that hits you in the gut. Fantastic album.
