Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Consolers Of The Lonely follows The
Raconteurs 2006 debut album Broken
Boy Soldiers, which went Top 10, was
Grammy nominated for Best Rock
Album, and spun off a #1 Modern Rock hit. Led by singer-songwriter-guitarists Jack White of The White Stripes and Brendan Benson, The Raconteurs
relocated to Nashville and moved to
Warner Bros. Fascinating, engaging, and rocking, Consolers Of The Lonely
fulfills the promise of the teaming of
two masters of power pop.

Album Description
Australian pressing of the 2008 sophomore album from The Raconteurs, who have had to change their name Down Under for legal reasons. The album features 14 songs, including first single 'Salute Your Solution'. While its predecessor was recorded on the band's own equipment in their homes, Consolers Of The Lonely gave them one of their first "big" studio experiences. The album was recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, TN. The creative spark for the record was ignited during the time the band spent touring in 2006. Songwriters Brendan Benson and Jack White utilized their time on the road wisely, using sound checks and live shows as a chance to experiment and elaborate on their sound. Warner.

5 out of 5 stars a sensational straight-ahead killer rock album   June 26, 2008
I'm on my 10th-12th listen of this album and it is really one of the best rock albums I've heard this decade. It brings back so much of what was so excellent about late 70's rock (though, it by no means has a 70's feel)...so then what do I mean? I think it is the resulting beauty of the straight-forward but thoughtful lyrics, the tempo changes within songs, the crunchy delicious guitars, and the delight in having two lead singers take on different songs. It is extremely well-produced and an absolute pleasure to listen to. It's never pretentious and seems rahter devoid of ego. I always feel good listening to it and love the "stories". I am so proud of this work and am glad someone finally took this sort of thing on. It will forever remain in my collection and always bring a smile to face. Fantastic.

2 out of 5 stars Just Not That Good   June 20, 2008

I liked the Raconteurs first album and I find this one to be vastly inferior. The songs to me are just not well written and are not pleasing to listen to. There is something that is "off" to my ears in almost every song. I would recommend not buying this album and simply enjoying their first album, which is great.

4 out of 5 stars Great For Summer   June 20, 2008
I was skeptical about this album after being slightly disappointed with their first album. Not that it was terrible, I just didn't think it was as great as what some had raved-- an amateur, first round-effort, if you will, some good songs and some bad.

But I was pleasantly surprised to see this album is solid from beginning to end. The guitars are heavy, which is great, but there are also violins and mandolins and heavy, vintage sounding keyboards(slightly Edgar Winter-styled) littered throughout, giving it that "retro" sound. It's like a strange blend of The White Stripes, The Band and Exile On Main Street-era Rolling Stones. This is fun rocking music you need to have for your summer soundtrack.
Key Tracks:
Title Track:Consoler of The Lonely(Rockin' in and out of different time measures)
Salute Your Solution(Rockin', good keyboard)
Carolina Drama(tells an epic tale in Dylan fashion. Hence the ode to "John Wesley Harding", civil war era cover art.)
Old Enough(Acoustic Guitars and violins)
Rich Kid's Blues(Anthemic, again, great keys)

5 out of 5 stars Consolers Of The Lonely Review   June 18, 2008
This album is a lot better than The Raconteurs first album. There are more genres of music blended into The Raconteurs original first album sound. There also are better solos and better songs on this album. If you like The Raconteurs first album, you will abosolutly need to get this one.

4 out of 5 stars This album goes to eleven!   June 14, 2008
I liked the second album a lot more than their debut. I think Jack White unleashed the inner blues rock god in him! There is a lot more energy on the CD. It's just raw, edgy R&B, rock and punk music all rolled into one. His band is very talented. I saw them in concert in Austin, TX at Stubb's BBQ and was blown away! Buy this CD. It will be one of 2008's top 100 list, if they still keep lists.
