Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
For Celtic Thunder, Sharon Browne has teamed up with Grammy-nominated Irish songwriting and composing veteran Phil Coulter to produce a show that includes an eclectic mix of songs ranging from the traditional "Mountains of Mourne" and "Come By the Hills" to international hits such as "Brothers in Arms" and "Desperado," as well as original compositions by Coulter, who has written hits for Elvis Presley ("My Boy") and the Bay City Rollers, and performed with Van Morrison, Tom Jones, and the Rolling Stones. The ensemble numbers in Celtic Thunder reflect the power of the vocalists, who range in age from 14 to 40, and feature songs that celebrate a common Celtic heritage.

Album Description
CD/DVD of the debut concert of Celtic Thunder was filmed on location at the Helix in Dublin, Ireland. The special features five male vocalists (ranging from 14 to 40 - Damian McGinty, Keith Harkin, Ryan Kelly, Paul Byrom, and George Donaldson) performing an eclectic mix of songs, ranging from the traditional "Mountains of Mourne" and "Come By the Hills" to international hits such as "Brothers in Arms" and "Desperado," as well as original compositions by Celtic Thunder's legendary musical director and composer Phil Coulter. Celtic Thunder roars with a 28 songlist of memorable songs including 'Raggle Taggle Gypsy','The Voyage', 'Steal Away', 'Ireland's Call', 'I Wanna Know what Love Is', 'Yesterday's Men' (bonus track) and more.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD   October 4, 2008
Every Irishman or those who want to be Irish should listen to this CD. Especially, "Ireland's Call."

1 out of 5 stars Break out the green beer and frosted Lucky Charms   October 3, 2008
I was thrilled when I first heard from a friend that a new Celtic Thunder CD had been released. I had been a fan since the early 1990s of the band whose albums such as "The Light of Other Days" were filled with songs of longing, rebellion, optimism and humor -- original and authentic songs embodying the timeless themes of humanity in general and humanity from the Irish and Irish American perspectives in particular. What a disappointment to find that the new "Celtic Thunder" album was a totally different act, playing off the Celtic Thunder name, and doling out the old sappy stereotyped standards mixed with retreds of pop songs from the recent past. Does the world really need another rendition of Danny Boy or Irish sounding Moody Blues music? If you prefer green beer to Guinness or Disney's Epcot to a trip to Europe, the NEW "Celtic Thunder" may be to your liking. If you like your drink and your music to be authentic, go with the original. An excellent primer would be the compilation CD, "When New York Was Irish, songs & tunes by Terence Winch" that was released in 2007 and also is available on Amazon. It contains a first rate cross section of Celtic Thunder's music along with some additional pieces by some of the groups members recording under the name the Narrowbacks. You won't be sorry that you went with the real thing.

5 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful   September 29, 2008
My husband and I saw the show on PBS so I had to order the CD. My favorite performances are the celtic songs rather than the pop tunes, but all of these guys have amazing voices. I'm part Irish, though it's never played a big role in my life, but when listening to Celtic Thunder performing celtic music, it makes me long for a place I've never even been or seen. They have an ability to touch you with their hauntingly beautiful music. Their sound is refreshing, no vocal gymnastics, they just sing the songs with purity and simplicity. Although each member's voice is totally unique, they blend well in harmony. I play this CD almost every day and never grow tired of it.

DEPENDING ON YOUR MUSICAL TASTES THIS CD HAS MUSIC FROM THE CELTIC CULTURE AS WELL AS SOME POP MUSIC. THERE ARE SOME OLDER MORE CLASSICAL TUNES AS WELL. THE GUYS HAVE GREAT VOICES.
