Though Morning View follows hot on the heels of Incubus's breakthrough single, "Drive," it doesn't feel rushed. After all, their previous album, Make Yourself, was released nearly two years ago. Like fellow Los Angeles metal pioneers System of a Down, Incubus find themselves lumped in with the nu-metal fraternity merely because they're young(ish), angry, and very loud. That's more than a little unfair, because their sound owes more to the clever and creative funk-metal of Faith No More and the Red Hot Chili Peppers than the faux-rap posturing of Limp Bizkit. In fact, songs like "Nice to Know You," "Circles," and the excellent "Blood on the Ground" display real maturity. But that's not all that sets Incubus apart: on "I Wish You Were Here," "Just a Phase," "11 a.m.," and "Mexico," they show an uncharacteristic willingness to tread softly, using acoustic guitars and touches of strings to make less noise, but more impact. Some could call it selling out, but it sounds more like growing up. Morning View is a leap forward for a band that continues to get better with each release. --Robert Burrow

4 out of 5 stars Nice To Know You is one of *the* best start off tracks EVER in music history...! November 8th, 2007   November 8, 2007
And Brandon is one sexy Aquarian specimen if I do say so myself!

Nice To Know You 9/10
Circles 7/10
Wish You Were Here 8/10
Just A Phase 7.5/10
11 AM 8/10 "Forgive my indecision. I am only a man..." Love that part! =D
Blood On The Ground 8.5/10 This track simply rocks. I <3 Brandon!
Mexico 8/10
Warning 9/10
Echo 7.5/10
Have You Ever? 7.5/10
Are You In? 8/10 Unique feel-good jam
Under My Umbrella 7.5/10
Aqueous Transmission 8.5/10 Peaceful, and yet again, unique

All too short in my opinion.

S.C.I.E.C.E. had one good song at best (Summer Romance), and Make Yourself was probably their best album, years ago. Now though, A Crow Left Of The Murder is their most "experimental" as well as their best work. Light Grenades is their latest, and somewhere in the middle. Who cares about the rest?! >_> This is all my opinion though. Maybe someone out there agrees!

104/13= 8

4 stars Even.

4 out of 5 stars Bonuses probably for collectors only...   June 10, 2005
As many have said, the DVD content is pretty limited. Tour videos, a music video, and an abundantly useless discography. It speaks of online offers for a "night time" version of the 'Are You In?' video, but if you're like me and just got the album, the video is no longer available.

As for the music, this is probably what Make Yourself should've been. The sound has improved a bit, and Brandon no longer sounds drowned out by the band.

The best songs are '11 am', 'Just A Phase', 'Mexico', 'Under My Umbrella', and 'Aqueous Transmission'. 'Under My Umbrella' is a nice fast pace sound, with an awesome bridge reminiscent of Porcupine Tree. 'Aqueous Transmission' mixes West with the East and is very effective. The only song I really have a problem with is 'Blood On The Ground'; it just isn't the greatest song ever, and the lyrics are pretty bad.

The best thing about this album is how Incubus tries to display as wide a range as can be managed in the nu-metal-esque genre (yes I know they are not nu-metal). There's dynamic changes, occasional variety in instrumentation, dissonance, and genre fusion (see Aqueous Transmission).

If you're into Incubus, this album gets my highest recommendation (second to A Crow Left Of The Murder).

5 out of 5 stars ...   December 30, 2004
im gonna keep this short - BRILLIANT, ABSOLUTLY BRILLIANT!! has summer written all over it!!

5 out of 5 stars what can you say that hasn't already been said?   October 16, 2004
Well, the easiest way to describe this cd is to say that it's like a breath of fresh air. This isn't something I saw coming, I mean I know Incubus evolves and changes with each album, but this is a pretty big step in a new direction few have traveled. Where not many can succeed, Incubus does, and that's why they're definitely not your typical radio or MTV band. Some bands try to recreate the success of a big single, but Incubus builds on what they create, which isn't very usual these days. Brandon Boyd is truely a genius in my humble opinion, he has a flawless voice which he puts on display magnificently, his lyrics are heart felt and simply amazing. Mike, Chris, Dirk, and Jose are at the top of their game once again. They know when to be heavier, and when to be lighter, and they just fit Brandon's voice immaculately. There's not a thing about this cd that could be better.
The DVD is also a treat, which shows Incubus really gives the fans what they want. It features behind the scenes footage (which is absolutely hilarious) and the Are You In? video (which is equally hilarious). This also contains a live version of Warning which shows how good the band is live.
Some of the best songs on here are Nice To Know You, Wish You Were Here, Just A Phase, Warning, and Under My Umbrella. I recommend this cd to anyone and everyone. It has something for everybody.

5 out of 5 stars Wish I Was There!!   October 9, 2004
This album is amazing. A must have. This is one of the few cd's that I can listen to all the way through without pressing the skip button. If you're looking for a good chill album, this is it. Brandon's voice is absolutely beautiful and compliments the wonderful guitar and drum arrangements perfectly. Incubus is the real thing- truly gifted musicians all the way around and will definitely be around for a long time. GO BUY THIS ALBUM RIGHT NOW!!!
