I was hoping this was the right one. It's not. I wanted the Kid rock Sheryl crow version. I don't like this girl's voice.
Allison and the Kid January 1, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered this CD on 12/24 and received it on 12/31 from "footstompnmark" via Amazon. The CD arrived with a cracked jewel case but otherwise was sealed and in perfect condition. I now see that the price of the CD has risen to as much as I paid for the item including shipping. Be that as it may.......... This version has it all over the Kid and Sheryl version. Allison has a far purer voice and really "countrifies" the tune. I dont know.....I just never really cared for Sheryl Crow. The first time I saw her was years ago on a pay-per-view Rolling Stones concert. She was one of the guest artists and looked lost out there with the Mickster. I guess Jagger can make anyone nervous but she easily was the worst of the guest performers. I wish I could sing as well as Sheryl Crow, and I do think she is a pretty cool chick, but in reality, at least IMHO, she has the voice of a really good karoake singer. Good enough to win contests but.....maybe Im jaded from that Stones show years ago. Still, I would imagine anyone with an ear for music or a musical background would agree that Allison has the superior voice. Not that the Kid/Crow version is bad by any means. Unfortunately kids this version has not YET been released on any Allison Moorer or Kid Rock album I can find. Just the CD single. So....for those of you who speculate or just like to collect records...this may be worth buying. Not only is it great but I doubt any radio station will have this version, maybe a country station?, as both Kid Rock and Cheryl Crow have it on their CD's. Which means this collaboration could very well be a limited edition collectors item down the road. It has three versions on the CD. Not sure why. And even though it is a "single" I usally burn my own compilation discs anyway with a Sony CD recorder. I prefer that to a computer because I can run my turntable into it and copy all my older albums to CD as well. So enjoy and buy both versions if you must. It definetly is one of those classic songs that seldom come around.
Allison is the Better singer (than Crow). November 20, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I cannot comprehend how the "popular" version, or radio version became the one with Sheryl Crow. (Even though it was contractual problems that caused the Sheryl version to get put on hold, then came in Allison, then Sheyrl was back for the Kid Rock CD -- very disappointing).
The Allison Moorer version of this song blows away all work that Sheryl Crow has ever done.
Don't Underestimate Allison... December 7, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Though I still like the version with Sheryl Crow better, I can't deny that Allison Moorer is an awesome singer. Her voice is very different. While Sheryl's singing is bit higher and pop-like, Allison's voice has a more down-home grittiness to it. Which is appropriate because she is a country singer. We've all heard and love the song so you know it's great. Whether you'd like this version as good as the popular one depends on your taste. I love it.
New Allison Moorer fan October 9, 2003 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I heard this song featuring Sheryl Crow and I really liked it but I couldnt seem to find the CD single featuring her so I broke down and bought the version featuring Allison Moorer. After hearing Alison Moorer sing, I just want to say that the Sheryl Crow version does not do this song any justice. I think Ms. Moorer has taken this song to a whole new level. She could actually sing this song by herself. To me,her voices just opens up this song. I like Kid Rock, but he is just the back up. I have never heard of Ms. Moorer before, but I will buy Ms. Moorer's work.
