Amazon.com A rare case in which a band actually gets better with time, this California hard rock quintet seems to have finally grown into its skin on its fifth album. Casting off the dated slap-bass funk and pointless nu-metal angst of its early years (well, mostly), Light Grenades is not only a worthwhile follow-up to 2003's A Crow Left of the Murder--the expansive disc many fans consider Incubus's best--but shows improvements all around. Singer Brandon Boyd has learned to temper the words he plucks out of the thesaurus with genuine heartbreak, while the rest of the group proves it can do a lot more than offer up nonstop grooves. --Aidin Vaziri

Change of opinion October 15, 2008 When I first heard this album, it didn't really strike me as anything special. It was different from the Incubus I knew and loved, and I wasn't sure I even liked it. However, last night as a total fluke, I ended up listening to it. Maybe I was too young to appreciate it then, or maybe my tastes have just changed, but suddenly at least most of the songs sounded great! I hadn't noticed the dynamics of songs like "Oil and water" and "Rogues" before, focusing almost solely on "Dig" and "Anna Molly." The album still has its flaws, of course. There are a few moments in "A Kiss to Send Us Off" where the vocals are off, and some songs don't necessarily reach their full potential, but overall, it is a job well done for Incubus.
Good Songs, but Maybe a Bit Over Produced April 9, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Finally for the fans of Incubus the wait is over. Ever since their last release of A Crow Lift of the Murder fans of the band have been "on-hold". On their sixth album "Light Grenades" Incubus doesn't disappoint. yet doesn't go above & beyond it's past releases. The song material is good, yet some lyrical content was slight disappointing.
Brendan O'Brien produces this album who has done previous albums and overall the production is good, yet some songs sound too compressed and over-produced. It lacks the fierce emotion in the vocals of singer Brandon Boyd that I loved in past Incubus releases. Songs on this album include "Quicksand", "Anna Molly", "Love Hurts" and the title track of "Light Grenades".
I find this album amazing... March 22, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
but what some may say shows that they "sold out" or are "losing the magic" I just see as change which has always been in their catalog and varied ways to get there point across.
It's weird but Oil and Water and Anna Molly are pretty much the first Incubus songs that I can shake my butt to! Sure, that's a bad thing to some but I love it!
Incubus has always put their emotion in the forefront with the awesome vocals and that is still here. The production to most of the songs is varied to a tee. (Check out Quicksand and then Dig and then A Kiss To Send Us Off).
But most of you know what this album entails so far. It did come out in 2006 and many of you have had the pleasure of it being ingrained in your very minds or having to live with this "disappointment".
Thank goodness that I am on my way to join the former and that this is my second favorite album by Incubus. The underrated A Crow Left Of The Murder being my first. But honestly, this one might grow to being the best.
The only "weak tracks" in my opinion are Light Grenades (it's just there) and Pendulous Threads which just goes on. They are both heavy ??? but don't go anywhere really, especially LG. But that's my opinion.
Earth To Bella Part II is another headscratcher but it's tolerable. It's just nothing like the first. It's quieter and then you hear Brandon harmonizing over and over. It's kinda freaky. LOL
Key tracks thus far are:
Anna Molly Dig Oil And Water Paper Shoes Earth To Bella Pt.I
4.5 stars.
I think the biggest surprise for me is how almost all the songs sound different. Yes, we're used to that with my favorite band ever. HOWEVER, it has a bit of everything for all old and new Incubus fans. HOWEVER, if you didn't like A Crow Left Of The Murder, I'm afraid that you should pass on this. It's all about the slower mid-tempos focused on love gone bad. I have always loved the softer side of them and this is why this album is my second favorite, possibly on the way to being my favorite.
Worst Incubus CD yet February 28, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a longtime fan of Incubus, I thought Crow Left of the Murder was a great move for them. That was the direction I thought they needed to move and really showed them growing up. Light Grenades is HEAVY on LIGHT and LIGHT on GRENADES. It really has no soul and nothing to grab onto. It's just an empty disc with a track or two that are worth listening to. I haven't listened to the disc since it first came out. I was hoping Brandon and the boys would channel a little more angst about the state of the world and put aside the teenage emotions. Perhaps that's as far as they are capable of going. Let's get back to more Megolmaniac style writing and passion. Light Grenades is a major DUD.
Single is Great!! but the cd itself sucks January 6, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was excited when i first heard the single ANna Molly, i mean whats not to like. But as soon as i listened to some of the other songs on the cd i was disapointed quickly. I don't know what they were thinking putting out a really good single to get people to buy the album, than there is just a bunch of crap to disapoint people who bought? I think some people just made a mistake letting all the crappy songs on a cd that people had to buy just for a bunch of disapointing songs.
