 Swano, it's Swedish for Versatility March 1, 2008

In case you hadn't already figured it out, Dan Swano is one seriously versatile musician. He's the kind of guy who can go from brutal death metal (Bloodbath) to melodic rock (Nightingale) without blinking an eye, all while producing some of metal's most interesting bands (Opeth comes to mind).
Swano's 1998 solo album Moontower represents the meeting point of his talents. The album essentially bridges the gap between the innovative death metal of Edge of Sanity and the melodic progressive rock of Nightingale. The album is at once brutal and melodic, heavy and progressive. Swano relies heavily on harsher, death metal style vocals on this album, but employs his clean vocal style at times, adding to the album's appeal. It's the kind of album that takes complete advantage of Swano's wide array of talents. I haven't heard an album quite like this since Amorphis's Tales From the Thousand Lakes (or perhaps Swano's epic Edge of Sanity release Crimson).
In the end, Moontower serves as a prime example of Swano's many talents, and is one of the better melodic progressive death metal albums out there. Fans of Swano's Edge of Sanity albums should love Moontower, and Nightingale fans should enjoy it as well, assuming they have some tolerance for harsh vocals. If you're new to Swano's music, Moontower is a great place to start.

Well, I'll keep this short and sweet. If you ever wondered what a modern-day Alan Parsons Project would sound like mixed with crushing Swedish Death-Metal, then Moontower will show you. This is the most exhilerating and creative collection of songs that Dan Swano has ever made and is up thier with his early Edge Of Sanity albums(Unorthodox-Crimson) and Nightingale. In fact, Moontower has all the progressiveness of his Nightgale project, but satisfies on a heavier level as well. If you are into ANY type of progressive metal this is a must have record, or even a great starting point. His death-esque vocals are great too and fit amazingly well with the trippy, swirling synths and the prog rock. Another example of why the Swedish folks have always been doing music better than anyone else, and proves that its not JUST Death Metal that the Swedes are masters of. Dan Swano is great. Check him out.

"Time, to let prophecy to become reality...ooooo Uncreation", wow, just wow, music so powerfull, so this is how the universe sounds when it dies? Music of Dan Swano, in this album, is so catchy, so surprising, so satisfying...One of the reasons is that he played all instruments, so the album, musically, is very focused, intense....if you follows his albums (Dan Swano/Edge of Sanity), Dan Swano is a remarkable entity. Defenetly has the scandinavian flavor to it, cold, epic, psychadelic vibe, sound is so thick....damn, I'm gonna stop writing and go back listening to moontower, BUY BUY BUY! Give money for more music!
A different take on melodic heavy metal January 26, 2006
Its a shame that when someone says 'melodic-death' its easy to think of a particular sound. Its a name associated with the likes of early Soilwork, Arch Enemy and At The Gates for its thrashier side and In Flames, Dark Tranquility and to a lesser extent early Opeth for its more epic sound. I say its a shame because the genre has somewhat stagnated with too many bands doing the same thing and it seems that melodic yet extreme metal albums that break these moulds get ignored for being less accessible instead of being praised for treading new grounds. One of these albums is Dan Swano's Moontower.
Combining melodic riffs, growled vocals and heavy synth sounds, it kinda sounds like a melodeath version of Rush. Its catchy and melodic but also different. If you have a problem with synths then it may not be the album for you, but those with an open mind to different sounds should like Moontower.

My opinion is Dan Swano's best work is Nightingale thats my favorite band, just the way the cd was made caught my attention
right away the way his voice sounded, the melody it had. To me it sounded so good for my graduation party i danced recollections
off Alive Again, with my mom. Every one thought i was weird but i thought it was cool but anything from Dan Swano is good, i will by anything from him, even moontower any one a fan of Dan Swano should buy moontower even crimson.
